Much Thanks to CanOfSoup for the sig!

I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about.

I thought this was about a special Friday that no one on the team tells the coaches about and all the players just blow off practice, and off to Great Adventure and much merriment ensues.

The End.

I can't believe the Jets released Ricky Ray and kept Quincy Carter.

I was at that Jets vs. Eagles preseason game last Friday and Carter couldn't hit a bull in the ass with a banjo. Fortunately Bollinger came in and pulled out a win.

Ray didn't play, but at least he won a Grey Cup in the CFL, where Carter, who sucked as a Cowboy, did nothing but overthrow every receiver out there, or throw to receivers that weren't even there.

They better make him a third stringer. I think Bollinger is not the answer by any means as a back up, but at least he's run plays with the team for some time.

Wait, what? I didn't see all of the game, but I saw the first half with two series with Carter at the helm and he marched them down the field, and scrambled for a first down on a long third down.

Besides, Quincy Carter wasn't even playing with the first team. Moss and alot of others sat out. The only Jets WR that Carter was throwing to that'll see any amount of playing time during the real season was Cotchery.

I seem to recall Dominguez dropping quite a few balls his way and even deflecting one right into the arms of a DB for one of Carter's INTs.

Carter didn't exactly "suck" as a Cowboy, considering they made the playoffs last year. And you just answered your own question why Carter may have sucked during the preseason game that I DIDN'T see... he hasn't been with the team long enough. 2 weeks is not enough time to get a system down effectively, especially considering how complicated and convoluted Hackett's schemes are.

Look, the Jets have two options at backup QB, and didn't have to blow the salary cap. I daresay that the Jets are DEEP on QBs, and how many NFL teams have that luxury?

FYI: Ray's on the Jets practice squad. So effectively, he's a fourth stringer.

I didn't see all of the game

I did.

Granted he wasn't playing with the first team, but throwing to nobody or a foot over the outstretched reach of a receiver is still a fuck up. Bear in mind, he was also playing against Philly's third team.

I seem to recall Dominguez dropping quite a few

Somebody told me today he got shit-canned too, but I just got home so I haven't confirmed it yet.

they made the playoffs last year

Wild Card (which they lost)

Agreed, but I still think he's a Kordell Stewart clone, but not from Kordell's good years.

I daresay that the Jets are DEEP on QBs

3 QB's is not DEEP.

and how many NFL teams have that luxury?

30

Other teams with 3 QB's (as of today):

Arizona
Atlanta
Baltimore (4)
Buffalo
Carolina
Chicago
Cincinatti
Cleveland
Dallas
Denver
Detroit
Green Bay
Houston (4)
Indianapolis
Jacksonville
Kansas City (4)
Miami
Minnesota
New England
New Orleans
NY Giants
Oakland
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
San Diego (4)
San Francisco
Seattle
St. Louis
Tampa Bay
Washington

For those of you scoring at home, that's every other team in the league with the exception of Tennesee who has 2.

Under the cap or not, I just didn't see him as being a great pick up. Maybe he didn't "suck" in Dallas, but this isn't Dallas.

Listen, I don't wish the guy bad luck, I hope he turns out great, he's on my team.

For that matter, I hope I never get to see him play again.

its not thin either. most teams keep only 3 QBs on the roster once the season starts.

Are you kidding? Ray hasnt done anything in the NFL, despite whatever extraordinary, super great things he did in some other football league. While Quincy led an NFL team to the playoffs.

Hes a great choice for a backup.

I can't believ the Cards released Joshua Tree. I'd say they should keep him just on name value.

And I thank the Dolphins for taking Lamont Brightful off the Ravens hands. Good luck with Mr. I-can't-do-nothin

Clarification:

By saying the Jets are 3 QB's deep, I mean that the Jets have Pennington (one of the A-list NFL QB's), Quincy Carter (a commodity with experience, who's got the one thing Pennington doesn't have - excellent scrambling ability) - and Brooks Bollinger, a developing prospect who can learn from Pennington and Carter.

Dominguez was let go, BTW.

Plus, Ricky Ray still has a job taking up one of the few spots on the practice squad, which means that the Jets saw enough in him to keep him around as ultimate insurance.
