Reading the Driving music thread, reminded me of another question...does any one here pay for their music?...I'll be honest....I don't.....You know where I get it...they're not after small fry like me...besides...I don't distribute it...I just take it!!!
Be honest...how do you get yours?

It's half and half. And since good music is now being harder to find (it's out there but it takes time to get to it) I've been purchasing the cds of artists that I've already downloaded.

I buy 95% of my music. But Im getting really tired of paying $14 for a cd and only liking 1 song on it.

I pay the tab, since the artists have paid the tab, and musicians are bad off enough as it is without wholesale theft of their product, and many of them get ripped off blind.
Ditto with software/movies: I like to pay my way.

I still buy cds occassionally, but when I walk into Tower Records and see the cd I want for $18-20, I'm not going to buy it.

I download mostly rare songs and stuff, and burn those onto a CD. Or I'll download a few songs from a band someone told me about to see if I like them. If I do, I go out and buy the album. I like to have the actual CD with artwork and stuff. Besides, they deserve the money.

Best Buy my friend. They have a great selection and it's all relatively cheap.

If you're in the West Village in Manhattan, check out Disc-O-Rama. I haven't been there in a while, but last time I was there (about six months ago) all discs were still only $10.

Theyre great. Their used cds are only like $5 and they sell some really cheap vinyl too. St. Marks Place on the East side is my favorite place to go cd shopping. Mondo Kims, Sounds and a few other places sell really cheap used cds. If youre willing to spend a little more, Bleeker Street Records on Bleeker right off of 6th Ave. is an awesome shop. They have new cds at a fair price but they also have dozens of bootlegs for just about every band. Also a huge vinyl section with some really rare finds. And if those places dont have what Im looking for, Ebay has always been great.

I buy about 99% of the music I listen to.
Between stores like Best Buy and Circuit City, used CD stores, and being able to compare prices and shop used CD's online, it's rare that I buy a disc for $10, period, much less above it.

When I got cable, back in Nov., I found where my line was. I down loaded like mad (96% stuff I had on vinyl or tape and was too lazy to transfer). l listened to the little voice in my head and a couple of hundred bucks later I can live with myself.
My kid's playing "what's new scooby doo" on a rented VHS tape & I'm really tempted to reload limewire to get it.

Most of my music was originally bought by my family members and I'll borrow the CD and copy the songs I want onto my computer. Anyone else do the good old trade with your friend dealie?

I know there are cheaper places to buy music. I used to like Academy Music in Chelsea, but don't really spend enough time in the city anymore and most of my local mom & pop music stores have gone out of business.
But even before the whole mp3 dealie, I refused to pay that much for cds.
