I am starting to branch out on my own and going to do some freelance work for a couple of people (clients) I know..

My question is : What is the average charging price to charge clients?

I was told by other clients who have has webpages and webiste created for them, that the price is around $800/month.

Any tips and ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks. :8|:

The cost should be client-to-client, especially because you're doing this free-lance.

The cost should depend mainly on how much work you're going to have to do regularly (updating), how much hosting will cost, how much initial programming you'll need to do, what kind of services you'll need to provide (for example, if the client needs an Oracle database, that's going to cost big bucks) and if you're going to have to do image services (or factor in the cost if you outsource image services). I myself would add a few dollars if the website you're designing is making money. It would only be fair if you made money off the site if the client was as well.

Don't take my exact word for it, however. I'm not very experienced, but this is the stuff I usually have to deal with. You should check out webdesign companies and see what they ask for on their intial inquiry forms.

i recently completed my first website and i charged 800. it depends on what your doing. I included a flash element along with a lot of graphic work. I know my client so it was easy to negotiate a price.

I give them a per-hour rate that depends on the type of client, their budget, the level of technical difficulty and the time I think it will take to work on the project.

The rate had been anywhere from $25 to $75 per hour depending on lots of things - if I know the people before hand, if this is a quick job or if they need a long term commitment that would prevent me from doing other work, if it's government, if it's private, if it's non profit, if I may need to bring someone else in, etc.

Things to consider - don't feel bad charging a lot. As a private contractor you are the one responsible for your own benefits, retirement, taxes, etc. The rule of thumb is a full time contractor with a company is paid twice the amount of what a salaried person would get in that same position. Aside from the benefits that I mentioned, a salaried person also has job security, which is huge.

Hope this helps.

We get $55@hour for make-ready, and $75@hour for creation. Pretty cheap by most standards!
