View Full Version : Getting Shortchanged

Today I got shortchanged a buck, but I didn't realize it until 5 - 10 minutes after I left the cashier. I could have gone back, but I was like fuck it, too much aggravation for $1.00. On the other hand, it makes me feel like a pussy.

Now, if it's more than a buck, sure, you have to suck it up and stick up for your rights, but what do you do when you get shortchanged a buck or less?

Yeah, I always count my change right there, especially after running my own store. I see too many cashier mistakes where they end up with extra cash from shortchanging...as long as you're dealing with people AND money, there's gonna be trouble. Count the change right there...it's part of the transaction! You have no obligation to move out of the way until you, as the customer, are satisifed that the transaction is done.

I didn't count the change because I had an ice cream cone in one hand and a wad of stiff $1 bills in the other. So basically I counted the change after I ate my ice cream, and I just didn't have it in me to go back with the whole "excuse me" routine, where they look at you like an asshole.

Many years ago I was at a Burger King, long before they had it set up where you can pour your own drinks. So they give me 1/2 a soda, so I go back and they fill up my soda, but with an attitude like I was pulling a fast one or something. Yeah, that's my big scam - buy a soda, drink half, and then go back and say hey, you gave me 1/2 a soda.

I always remember that when I see Burger Kings going out of business left & right.

Wow, are they really?

I've been in this area for about 7 years now, and there's always only been just two that I know of in about an hour radius around me.

I think in my 20+ years of being an observant human being I've seen like 1 Burger King go out of business. Where are these failing BK's you speak of?

you can go back but the cashier may not have the courtesy to follow 'the customer is always right' policy and you'll be spinning your wheels...

but if it's not an inconveniance it may go in your favor...

Occasionally you will see a Burger King or McDonalds actually close, only to be replaced shortly by one or two within a short distance of the original. Apparently it's one of their tactics in dealing with labor relations.

As for the change I'll usually count right there. I've given money back to the cashier at times if it's a place I frequent regularly.

it's worse when you get shortchanged the eggroll...

then onetime at WaWa i ordered my hoagie with extra turkey on the 'computer order thingie, i believe it was 2.25 extra. but when i got to work it was the usual amount. burned me up for about 3 seconds and then i realized i'm not going back and if i called and gave the guy an earful we would hangup and then he'd tell me to go fuck myself...

The worst cashier you can come accross is a Hindu one. They always think that you're trying to jyp them out of a few cents.
