It used to be a humor magazine. Now it's just a brand name.

"A" humor Magazine?
It was THE Magazine, baby ! ! ! ! !
OK I guess I miss it a little. A lot. It was mercilessly Un-PC. It rocked.

Oddly enough a brand name associated with things lacking humor.

How many issues did they actually produce? 'Cause that's the only cover i've ever seen.

A bunch, I'd say. My recollection is that they started publishing at least by the mid-70s, and folded some time in the mid to late 90s, and for the majority of that time they were a monthly.

I remember the dog cover you put up, a "back to school" issue where a professor was giving a spanking to one of his hot co-eds, and then this disturbing one, among others...

My older brother was into it when I was little. When ANIMAL HOUSE came out, the magazine was HA-UGE!

At this point it seems like they just rent out the name to any half-assed "teen sex romp" that comes out of Hollywood.
I think Conan O'Brian was part of the Lampooners when he was at Harvard.

Van Wilder is the only good one since European Vacation. Though I do remember whacking off to Senoir Trip, so at least that was something.

Here's the place to Go to see the Glory Days.
As for a brand name lacking humor, I thought 'Animal House' was kinda funny...

Yeah, but there's been some serious quality control issues over at least the last 15 years.

A post graduate version of the Harvard Lampoon, they ( P.J. O' Rourke, Henry Beard and Tony Hendra are the names I remember) aimed at the counter culture of the early 70's. The brand name aspect was there early on. Lemmings, a parody of Woodstock had a decent run off broadway and it's where Belushi unveiled his "Joe Cocker". Chevy Chase and Christopher Guest were in it as well. The National Lampoon Radio Hour was syndicated to many rock stations a veritable whos who of future stars (http://www.marksverylarge.com/nlrh/nlrhintro.html)
