That's what local TV WBZ4 is reporting. That the Sox are trying to get him through a waiver deal.

Pedro, Schilling and Rocket would be an amazing staff.

Why would he go to Boston if his reason for going to Houston was so he could be closer to home?

I can't imagine the Yanks would have ever let him slip through waivers.

I'd love to see it happen. Just to see how weird it would be.

This is my question on waivers. The red sox have a worse record, so would the yankees be able to bloack or just teams with worse records than the red sox in both leagues. Or does everyone get to put in a claim regardless of record

I think it works that teams with worse records get first dibs and teams with higher records simply have to wait their turn. So that also tells me that 28 other teams passed on Larry Walker for the Cardinals to have gotten him. Crazy. Would be awesome to see Clemens go back to Boston though. Kind of squirly though considering he wanted to go HOME to Houston.

The Yanks could not block this on waivers. The Yanks are the last team in the AL to get dibs on a player. If the player is from the NL, then they are the least team in the league.

I don't know if he would go to Boston, but it would be very interesting to see.

Don't forget, 5 weeks ago it was definite that Randy Johnson was going to Boston.

didn't the yanks block boomer being traded last week ...?

i thought the yanks can block or claim a player, they just couldn't (in this case) get the player ...

The way waivers work is that the team with the lowest record has first dibs on any player. Once a team claims a player, he can be traded to that team and only that team.

The reason so many players go unclaimed (like Larry Walker) is that once team B claims the player, team A who put the player on waivers can decide to let the player go for nothing. In the case of Walker, teams were afraid Colorado would just let him go and not look for a trade, meaning the new team is responsible for his ENTIRE salary for the rest of his contract.
