I think it's official that Julian McMahon (who plays Christian on Nip/Tuck) is going to play the new 007.
I havent cared aboot that franchise in a while but, he might breathe new life into it. He's amazing on Nip/Tuck!
I say : Upgrade!

Damn, I really liked Pierce Brosnan. I thought they could've got another movie out of him.

I agree with ya NYD. Pierce was an excellent 007. Even though I like Nip/Tuck, Julian does not have a James Bond look. I could be wrong.

the geek rumour i remember was that brosnan wanted to distance himself from the current studio franchise to hook up with tarantino to redo the first bond book ... focus on the darker aspects, the loss of his wife and such ...

Source, please.
Everything I've read points to Eric Bana being named the new Bond.
While I like Julian, I'm not really sure where all of these movie rumors are coming from. The guy's being linked to everything from Dr. Doom to, now, James Bond.
I'm a big Bond fan, and I would have to say that after watching the last few movies, who they hire to actually play Bond is, at this point, second in importance to who they hire to write the script.

My wife heard it on Toronto Talk radio on her way to work but, here is a little article from Chicago:
Is 'Nip/Tuck' star cut out for role of James Bond?
August 18, 2004
BY BILL ZWECKER SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST Advertisement
T hough most of us think Barbara Broccoli and the James Bond producers should stick with Pierce Brosnan, yet another potential 007 replacement has emerged. With Eric Bana now out of the running, the usually reliable Ain't It Cool News movie Web site reports that another Australian may play the famous secret agent.
Julian McMahon (best known for starring in the FX cable TV hit ''Nip/Tuck'') is said to be the currently favored candidate producers hope will appeal to a younger audience.
McMahon, who recently signed on to play the evil Doctor Doom in the upcoming "Fantastic Four" movie, also appeared in TV's ''Charmed'' and ''Profiler.''

From what I've read, the studio (ooooh - big and scary) wants Eric Bana in the worst way, but he says no one has even approached him about it. McMahon would be sorta cool. Clive Owen would not. None of the rumored casting really does it for me. I say bring back Sean Connery.
Bond: Do you ekshpect me to talk?
Goldfinger: No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to beat up your wife then soil your adult diaper.

How about Jack Black as James Bond? He's already JB!

Clive Owen would not.
Says you.
Between the BMW films and "Croupier," he's already played Bond.

Well, he has been confirmed for the role of Dr. Doom. As far as Bond goes, I'm going with Hugh Jackman.

Hugh Jackman
Again, someone I have no interest in seeing as James Bond.

Outside of possibly Julian and definitely Hugh Jackman, pretty much every other actor associated with being the new Bond would be a better choice.
Bana, Guy Pierce, Jude Law, etc.
Whomever they get, they can't really afford to screw this up, because at this point Matt Damon's Bourne films are better than all of Brosnan's Bond flicks (with the possibly exception of Goldeneye). I don't place the blame on Brosnan, rather on the atrocious plots they've been writing. The Bourne films have shown that you can have tense, well-done spy / espionage flicks that DON'T need a shitload of gadgets to be cool or edgy.

Jude Law and Guy Pearce look like wimps, straight-up. Great actors, but I don't buy that they know how to throw a punch, even for a second. Guy Pearce is ALWAYS playing the ultra-fem evil aristocrat these days...seems a little TOO natural. And Law looks like a villain. There's nothing heroic about him whatsoever.
I'm saying Bond has to be some kind of alpha-male he-man, but he's gotta look like he can at least kick a LITTLE ass.
We had a pussy Bond before, and his name was "Roger Moore," and he queered up the series...pun intended.
Shit, former Bond candidate Rupert Everett would have been a more convincing "manly" Bond than those ponces.
What the fuck is wrong with Clive Owen? He seems like the least of a stretch in terms an actor having to "become" Bond, since, like I said, he's basically played the character several times already.

I really liked Die Another Day. My brother hated it, so maybe it's just because I'm into Korean politics.
I think Hugh Jackman is an excellent candidate. He's less polished, but he could still do an excellent job.
They can't do worse than Timothy Dalton. He sucked on several levels. One being that to me, he'll forever be the villain in the Rocketeer.

i'd have to say by appearances he is a 'borderline' James Bond... but when you were around for Sean Connery it seems noone will ever quite match up...

First movie was Dr. No. Bond gets married in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" with George Lazenby. The movie Tarantino was rumored to remake "Casino Royale."
