do people in this country feel that they are owed something? then to be so self righteous that they might suggest, even though their forefather's bore the brunt, we not allow immegrants.
your typical hs kid feels they should be getting more for flipping burgers or bagging groceries.

Shut the fuck up with this "immigrant" stuff. Most people are talking about illegal aliens, not legal immigrants who go about this the correct way. Now stop starting all these new immigration threads, there's already a few of them!

it's not just kids who are performing this labor, it's alot of grown-ups with familys.
with all of the recent layoffs in the past few years they said that near 60% of the people who found jobs found jobs for less pay... i would imagine their mortgage payment, rent, medical costs, gas prices, and other things they need did not go down in cost
the minimum wage should be changed. the current 7 dollars or so should be for kids from 15-18 and it should go up with age 19-21 11 dollars, 21-25 15dollars, 26-60 19 dollars(this is where people are more likely to be married with familys)
an example i'll give you is Walmart - i doubt people can make a decent to good living working there or raise a family. but you have 3 of the owners that make the billionaire list each year. i feel they should increase salaries and benefits because they could do it and continue to be billionaires. most of the employees work hard regardless of what they do.
in the news article about Kerry's wife, it showed that she does not pay close to the amount of taxes she is supposed to. many of the wealthy know how to use the system to avoid it and they earn the most interest on their money
if you are at the bottom of the financial ladder you get to
> pay a penalty for not putting 20% down on a home
> pay a penalty for not keeping the 3 or 5k in your checking
> the 17% interest on your car loan because you may have a mark on your credit
> pay the highest insurance premiums because you live in the worst neighborhood
> pay for auto repairs because you can't afford a new car every 2 or 3 years so you try to maintain your car for 7 to 10
these are a few of the ways the people at the top take advantage and the people at the bottom get taken advantage of...
there is opportunity for everyone, you just might have to make shit with that opportunity...
the end
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v53/monster6sixty6/guests/fm2_sig.jpg">
the current 7 dollars
People WISH that was the current minimum wage. I believe the current minimum wage is $5.25.
in the news article about Kerry's wife, it showed that she does not pay close to the amount of taxes she is supposed to. many of the wealthy know how to use the system to avoid it and they earn the most interest on their money
And luckily we have a President who will not take this lying down, will close the loopholes, attack the cheats, and make them pay their fair share!
Or not. (http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/virginia/dp-va--bushvisit0809aug09,0,6920595.story?coll=dp-headlines-virginia)

FYI, minimum wage is $5.35.
That shit needs to be a LOT more flexible to roll with the economy. Personally, I think it might need to be state, or even county-based.

Yea, but I bet you states like Montana would lower it to $2.00, because they're from Montana.

Where is all this money going to come from?
Everyone likes the idea of everyone making more money, but every time the minimum wage is raised unemployment goes up too.

The minimum wage was raised during Clinton's term and we had little trouble creating jobs.

The trick is creating a flexible "living wage" that meets the "minimum" per person based on their family/health situation, and where they live, etc., etc..
Setting more fixed levels of minimum wage doesn't solve anything.

That's the same poster I was thinking of from work...for some reason $5.35 is stuck in my head, mainly because I always thought it was odd how it was just 10 cents off from a quarter, which it would be too if it was $5.15...

It is interesting though that if the minimum wage had increased at the same rate CEO's salaries have since 1970, it'd be about $15 an hour.
