Since the other thread was closed, I would like to make a comment.

NJlumberdude and I were both sailors..different services. He served in the 80's and I served in the late 60's to the early 70's. We both played with the Soviets.

My part was serving on the USCGC Dallas as an ASM stationed in Gitmo for a few months. We were attached to the 31 Naval Destroyer Squadron. One time ,we chased a russian submarine for 72 hours. It turned out to be a diesel sub that wasn't supposed to stay under more than 60 hrs. It was trying to come into Havana Harbor. It finally surfaced , in disgrace and was forced back into the Atlantic. We got the big E for that one!

That's actually a pretty cool story there Reeshy.

Speaking of Gitmo, my recruiter was a security guard there for like a year or so. It was before 9/11 and all that, and he was disapointed that he wouldn't be able to fuck with captured Taliban.

One more story that I thought of....

I was a uniformed Patrolman in 1976, covering OPSail 76. I was stationed at the pier where the Soviet sailing vessel was berthed...I forget the name at the moment...I escorted 4 soviet enlisted sailors to Times Square so that the civilians wouldn't bother them..they had no money...I was remembering Ihow I used to hunt these guys down in the service..but as a cop...it was my job to protect them...they turned out to be pretty nice guys...we couldn't speak to each other but we understood each other...I hope that they had a pretty nice day with me...I bought them lunch!!! And one of them gave me his hat which I still have till this day!!!!
