An estimated 120,000 bees held residents of the apartment building and nearby homes hostage in Santa Ana, California after the children pelted their 500 pound (227 kg) hive with rocks on Thursday, Santa Ana Fire Captain Steve Horner said.

I remember when I was around 10 a friend of mine threw a rock at one of those bees nests hanging in the tree. Hornets I believe, anyway, I can still see that one horney come zipping out and sting him in the back of the neck. It all happened in about 2 seconds.

Can you imagine the look on those kids when 120,000 pissed off bees come out a-lookin' for who is a-knockin'?

this reminds me of last week and i was chainsawing down two bushes that were in the front of my house which had grown to 12 feet and i got tired of trimming them. the kids noticed alot of bees going in and out of the bushes, not necessarily these two i was taking down but i decided to not bother looking for any nests.

my plan was to run and dive in the pool if i disturbed a nest and riled them up. which brings me to my question: i think i could hold my breath at least 30 seconds to a minute, would these bees or hornets hang out over the water or would they fly away?...

Well, from what I know of my study of bees, they would either form themselves into an enormous fly swatter or a giant fist, just wait for you to pop up and then smack your ass down.
