I would say history for me. Its not that it was hard, just boring as hell and I never really tried or got into it. I always loved science and math.

Wow, who would complain about that?
Math and I never really go along that well (trig, calc, et al). I was always more of an English/History kind of guy, although remembering dates has always been kind of tough for me. I guess Keithy and I have that in common. ;)
Some aspects of science were fine (biology, zoology, earth science). But you start tossing in too much of the math with Chemistry and Physics and I start drifting.
That's one of the reasons I admire folks like Mike the Teacher. I typically can get a handle on most of the abstracts thoughts and ideas, but start getting into the numbers and details and I can appreciate it, but fully lock in on it? Probably not.
I've always cursed that weakness.

I would say 90% of the time it is not the teachers fault, despite the pleas of the children that it is. Most of the time the kids do not pay attention, do their homework, or study. yet they exect an A anyway.
BTW, Algebra and geometry are very useful. I think if schools tought more of applied math, kids would see the use for it. But you need to learn the basics before the application, and most never make it to that point.

If you are an engineer perhaps. My point is that high school should teach you things you need to know through out life -- like accounting.

...or teaching you to look like you're working when you actually are just wasting time on some internet message board dealing with a radio show that you can't even listen to.

Def. agree with the accounting.
but those other 2 subjects are useful in other ways. They teach you how to attack problems from different directions. Like in an a geometery class and you get a problem using TAN. you look at it and you say "I never learned how to take the tangent of whatever"
But as a problem solver you can now attack the problem by saying. well i do not know the answer using tan, but I do know tan = sin/cos. so i can use this to get the answer. It helps you "think outside the box"
or in algebra you would look at SQRT 162 and say you could not do it because it does not have a perfect square. but looking a little further you could break it down into SQRT81 * SQRT2 and get an answer of 9 SQRT2

I agree. I didn't suck at gym, I just hated it and my teacher was a running Nazi. Always had to freaking run.
And in elementary/middle school fucking SQUARE DANCING is part of gym. Those years are awkward enough before you add in having to dance with boys in gym class. I think it traumatized me.
The worst though is that because I went to a state university, everyone had to take 4 semesters of a 'Kinesiology'. I rebelled and took the laziest classes I could. Badmiton, Billiards (pool) and bowling. Woohoo. What a waste of my time and money.

you're like my friends last year who took golf, gym, and sailing as part of their electives. I hate all of you. While I was writing thesis papers, you all were playing 9-ball on a yacht somewhere.

I had to take 2 semesters of gym. both i took individualized fitness, which was basically come in, sign in and then do your own workout. which for me was go to the library and study, then go back and sign out.

Not picking on you in particular, AG, just using you quote which I've heard hundreds of times...but I've always laughed at this assessment of mathematics. High school math like Algebra & Geometry teach basic principles of their own disciplines first, but in the long run they are more about problem solving skills. They teach both linear and abstract thought. As much of a pain in the balls as they were when I was going through them, I'm thankful for having learned them. Then again, I was a nerd for most of my school life.

Funny you say this, I'm going to be a Physical Education educator very soon and I loved every minute of my haed ass gym teacher. We would have to run outside on the track every time we had gym unless it was pooring. I remember running when it was snowing!!! This made me a much better person and tought me to push myself to the limit.

I HATED orchestra, but I needed those music credits. Ugh- I sucked at the violin. I was the last chair, last stand. I have a music award for being in orchestra from 6th grade through 12th grade. I guess the quantity counted because the quality was God awful.

I was awful too. i was probably the only one in the class that didnt take it seriously. I took it in 8th and 9th grade because a: the teacher was REALLY fucking hot (fast forward to last year; he has MS and was arrested for molesting a 5 year old); and b: i had a major crush on a guy who had a class next door to ours, and c: one of the cello players was also pretty hot.
I also hated math, but took it up to 11th grade trig.
the worst class i had to take was shop in 8th grade. i think i built a shelf and a box that year.

What instrument did you play? I played the violin.
I remember coming home in sixth grade saying, "Mommy, the teachers says I am really good at playing the violin and said I should take private lessons."
My mom turned to me and said, "They tell you that you need private lessons for doing well??? I figured you would need extra lessons because you are bad."

I have the same thing, didn't help I'm left handed and the teacher ws right handed....
One subject I hated was one in college I had to take for gym credit...Ballroom Dancing. I took this because it was the only gym class that was open when I registered for it. I sucked at it because it was an 8am class, the teacher used the gayest music in the class and made us do all the retarded dances of the 90's (electric slide, achy bracky) along with disco, and the partner I ended up with didn't shower (she said she showers after the class). I almost failed it because I refused to dance with her and told her to wash her ass before class in front of the teacher and other students, which made her cry and drop the class that day.
In the end I got the A. It was an attendance class, wasn't really graded on my dancing ability...thank God, I was a straight, white dude dancing, how good can that be?!?!?

One year in science, the teacher we were supposed to have, Mr. Orr was out for the year, and we had a different teacher for each six-weeks grading period.
Something happened to every one.
So at the begining of each grading period, we'd have a new teacher who would ask us what we had done.
We just stared back like the class Harold Ramis was teaching at the beginning of Stripes.
So each teacher started us on chapter one of the book, which you could get by on if you knew the Coefficient of Linear Expansion.
