A woman who seeks money and expensive gifts from men.

this article will not sway your opinion... i have an opinion that the wealthiest people do not pay their 'fair share' of taxes and it looks like this article explains an example of it... this is why i took it as a 'blatant rich get richer' move when Bush gave the wealthiest part of the country the largest tax break and the poorest no tax break at all...
will Kerry/Edwards do anything fairer? i hope so

Let me preface this, there's no 'agenda' here, just the fact that yes, whoever described it as a 'Matthew Broderick' was dead-on, seems a lot of people just plain forgot. I have no idea what exactly happened, but here's an old article excerpt from USA today.
Mrs. Bush ran stop sign in fatal crash
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Details in a 1963 accident report say that Laura Bush, then 17, ran a stop sign in the Texas crash that killed a friend in another car. The report, adding information to previous reports of the crash, was released to The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Mrs. Bush now is the wife of Republican presidential nominee-to-be George W. Bush, the Texas governor.
''It was a very tragic accident that deeply affected the families and was very painful for all involved, including the community at large,'' said Mrs. Bush's spokesman, Andrew Malcolm. ''To this day, Mrs. Bush remains unable to talk about it.''
-
And all I can say is I'm not judging her, having driven drunk more then once, I was stupid and lucky. But again, when I first heard this, I was like, 'What?! No Way.' And I have no idea if she was sober and just spaced it or what.

Oh, I thought you meant that you thought that the story had been completely surpressed.
What you really meant was why didn't this become Laura Bush's Chappaquiddick?
Probably because it happened when she was a teenager and because she wasn't running for office.

What does her husband's DUI have to do with her accident?
The question was why didn't anyone bring up Laura Bush's accident. My point was that she wasn't a public figure (at least not outside of her role as Texas First Lady) until 2000. The issue was brought up and she addressed it. I'm sure it's something she feels terrible about (since it happened to be a friend who was killed) and she doesn't want to keep talking it.

How did Ted Kennedy get a "pass?" I've seen the news coverage at the time, and he got nothing resembling that. Don't confuse the decisions of the local justice system with the media's treatment of what he did. And how are they "treating him like a wise old sage?" They turned on the camera?
And again, the talk is like "the media" is some little group that gets together and plans their agenda, like ALL of them voted to treat Ted Kennedy a certain way, or to ignore Laura Bush. It couldn't possibly be because they realize the Laura Bush incident for what it is...an accident. NO, they're doing it to balance out some kind of retarded behind-the-scenes agreement to protect Ted Kennedy...are you serious?

The real question is why they gave so much abuse to her husband instead of simply directing it all at her.
She's a disingenous, hardcore left idealogue with disturbing socialist tendencies. Bill Clinton was the farthest thing from that - while a Democrat he governed primarily by the polls, implementing policy with mass appeal to both aisles of the political spectrum, which was largely why he was (and is) so beloved. He doesn't appear to have any true core hard-left beliefs at all; his wife is the opposite - she's the true believer, which makes her deserving of conservative scorn and hatred.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all.
No one had any idea Laura Bush was coming, so there could not have been an "agreement." All I'm saying is that when the time came to decide how hard to hit the story, the only reasonable answer from the newsrooms' perspective was to not hit it hard, based on the precedent they had ALREADY SET.
And please, Teddy gets a pass every time he's taken the least bit seriously. I shake my head at Massachusetts everytime he's re-elected. He gets a pass everytime he steps to the podium to introduce John Kerry and that isn't seen as a huge risk on Kerry's part. When Ted Kennedy is mentioned on a national news broadcast and Chappaquidik isn't discussed, he's getting a free pass.
To sum up, every day that Ted Kennedy continues to live a political life is a free fucking pass.
Wow, a complete lack of specifics.
Ok: Hillary speaks to a bunch of rich folk, and says, "You all make too much money. So, we're going to take some of it from you and give it to some others who need it more."

What? Are you purposely being obtuse?
That's not even close to what I said- it's not even a remote resemblance.
You can only purposely be ignoring my central point, that Laura Bush got a light touch on the story because it came after Ted Kennedy's light touch. You must be because you didn't comment on it, and didn't quote it for your reply.
Nothing I wrote suggested anything about it being about before anyone knew who she was, so I don't know what motivation you have to suggest it in that way. (Besides, obviously it wouldn't be a national issue when it happened, she was just some random kid.)
As for Teddy, of course he should be branded with it! My other point is that Kennedy is never branded with it at ANY chance! The man was able to make a serious run for President! I suppose it was my weak writing that sent that over your head, as well. Sorry about that.

Thank you for demonstrating my point. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about because you're just parroting the right-wing spin machine that told you for eight years to hate Hillary. So like Pav Lov's dogs her name is mentioned and you automatically make shit up. Sucker.
"Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you," Sen. Clinton said. "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."
I paraphrased. Sue me. (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2004/06/28/politics2039EDT0165.DTL&type=printable)

Bush-Cheney 2004.
So it's all in the timing? Because Teddy Kennedy kills someone in a car accident WHILE he's a public
figure, then he should be almost branded with it at every chance? Whereas Laura Bush "gets a pass" because it happened BEFORE anyone knew who she was?
Maybe it is. Laura Bush was a teenager. Kennedy was a married 37-year old United States Senator who left a young woman in his car and failed to report the accident. In Kennedy's case he deserves the criticism for motive (saving his political career) and poor judgement.

You weren't paraphrasing, you were grossly exaggerating. Undoing massive tax cuts for the rich in a time of war is not "socialist tendencies" it's fiscal responsibility. How can you seriously accuse Clinton of wealth redistribution when Bush just did exactly that by shifting the tax burden away from the wealthy and to the middle and lower classes and the future generations? If anything giving massive tax cuts to the rich during a time of war, especially without any conditions for investing in job creation, is blatant class warfare and stupid for a president who thought we'd be down to a handful of troops covered in flowers right now.

So it's all in the timing? Because Teddy Kennedy kills someone in a car accident WHILE he's a public figure, then he should be almost branded with it at every chance? Whereas Laura Bush "gets a pass" because it happened BEFORE anyone knew who she was?
Huh.
Dead is still dead.
Fascinating, though...

Bush-Cheney 2004.
You're right, I'm completely missing something.
I don't think Kennedy got off "light" with the press or the public...just the justice system. "Serious run for the presidency?" Are YOU serious? It was obvious he didn't have a chance within weeks of announcing his candidacy, SOLELY because of Chappaquiddick. Because of media coverage of Ted Kennedy, I knew about him and Cappaquiddick even before I had ever heard of his brother Bobby, or really anything JFK did as president. Chappaquiddick completely changed the way not just the media, but ALL of America treats Teddy and the Kennedys as public figures.
It seems to me you're suggesting that whenever Kennedy is in the media, or DOES anything related to his job that gets media attention, Chappaquiddick NEEDS to be brought up, which is absurd.
Like I said, Kennedy DID get a slap on the wrist when it came to the LEGAL aspect of what happened. But it's not like people don't know about Chappaquiddick. I'd lay money that that's exactly what most people in this entire country think of when you bring up Ted Kennedy...either that, or that he's fat, has a huge head, and is an embarassing drunk. The man is a walking joke, BECAUSE of how he's been treated by the media, yet you think he got off "lightly."
Am I still missing something here?
