Saw the first pre-season game tonight....looked pretty good...

Martin had 3 rush attempts and rushed for 20...
Johnathan Reese had a big game as well rushing for 56 with 13 attempts...
All three QBs looked pretty good, I think Ricky Ray will be our #2 this season...
Jonathan Vilma looked great tonight, cant wait to see him in a real game situation...
Jason Glenn looked great as well...

I think we've got a solid team. Our passing game is very good if Wayne Chrebet will ba able to play in full form this season. The defense doesnt look too great but I think it will keep us in games. Hopefully it wont take 12 games until Curtis Martin has his first 100+ yard game...

duke arent you a charger fan? stay out of the jets discussions until we play them!!!!

and yes the jets looked very solid. pennington, god willing, is going to have an amazing season, 4,000 yards, 30 td's, and the highest completion percentage in the league. martin was surprising now lets see what he can do against a starting defense most notably the pats.

and with the new rules and strict enforcement of pass intereference i think the jets have a chance at actually getting the division. just a chance.

Jets defense is solid, but this is (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-jetsmoves&prov=ap&type=lgns) a pretty big hit. Evans is a good leader on the defensive side of the ball and a good stop gap. Nevertheless, Robertson and Ferguson do a good job in the middle so it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

And again, HOW FUCKIN AWESOME IS CURTIS MARTIN?!

Just keep Hackett away from the playbook and the Jets will fine. Let's just hope Kevin Mawae can play after the bye week.

Um... Evans hardly played in either of the games. So even if he's on the IR, it's not a huge issue. It's not the same as Chad going out last year or Vinny going down in 2000.

3-0, not bad. O.K., they have yet to play a good team, but in years past they would beat the good teams and lose against some scrub ass team. With two games against the Bills, and games against the 49'ers (who are getting killed right now) and the pathetic Dolphin offense again, should be a playoff year for the J E T S, JETS, JETS, JETS.

They didnt look as good today as they did in the 2 previous games, at least on offense but it could be because of that great Miami D. Justin McCareins was non existent yet again with just one reception but its cool to see Wayne Chrebet being used again.

They could do so much more with that offense if it werent for Paul Hackett dragging it down. Pennington is a fantastic Quarterback. Martin has been tremendous this season. C Penn has 3 good if not great receivers to throw to in Moss, McCareins, and Chrebet not to mention Jerald Sowell, Chris Baker, and Anthony Becht. No matter what Pennington says about Hackett, he knows damn well that they could do much much better.

Just got back from the game (thanks for the tix Kat!), and Jesus Christ, why do they have to do these things to me? That should have been an easy win, but they fucked around and let the shit Bills hang around and almost lost. What the fuck is up with Hacket and Edwards? Why the fuck did they not call time out with 14 seconds left in the first half and take a shot at the end zone? What the fuck was Edwards thinking in the third quarter when he called time out, and the play he calls on fourth and inches from the 37 is .....................nothing, try and pull them off sides? Good game by the "D", and Chad, while not spectacular, calmly led them down the field on the last drive.

Hey, we are fucking 4-0, I can't really bitch.

5-0 MOTHERBITCHES!!!

Looked godawful in the first half but I give mad props to Pennington for getting them back in the game and then putting them up in the 3rd quarter. Martin had another great game. Jordan and Becht made some really key plays. Defense looked pretty bad blowing coverages left and right. If it wasnt the 49ers, they would have gotten their asses handed to them. I dont see any possible way for them to beat the Pats next week. However after that game we got Miami and Buffalo again. 7-1 is fine by me.

im a huge jets fan but theres no way the jets are winning tomorrow. when the jets barely squeak by the bills and 49's you know they're not ready for the patriots. unfortunetly i agree with the critics and this 5-0 is a weak 5-0. i put the blame on hacket. hes so predictable, 2 draws to curtis martin then a lateral to the te or fullback. if only he would open it up like the last drive of the bills game all the time

please stop that, your hurting me

This is a HUGE trap game. Comming off of a Monday night win, most teams lose. Of course, I went to the Monday night game and had a bad feeling that the Miami defense would shut us down, so what do I know? Getting the ball down field is a must to open up the run and the undernieth stuff that Hacket and Pennington love.

WTF knows with Bufallo. Last time they sucked the first half, the Jets let their guard down, and all of a sudden Buffalo is ahead. Buffalo is a mistake prone team, to win the Jets are going to have to capitalize on those mistakes. Drew Bledsoe is also the easiest QB to sack so look for Abraham to come up big yet again. So far the Jets have done a great job keeping up in the standings with the SuperBowl champion Patriots. It would be HUGE for the Jets if they beat the Bills today and New England loses to the Steelers, which quite frankly, is more likely than not at this point.

I gotta agree with cowbell on this one. Martin is a great QB, but its not like hes managing Baltimore here, the Jets have a great passing game. Penngton to Moss. Pennington to McCareins. Pennington to Chrebet. Pennington to Baker. Yet Hackett rarely utilizes them and way too many passes are going to Sowell and the TE that gain about 4-6 yards. The Jets have an awesome team. Both offensively and defensively. They shouldve just fired Hackett when they fired the defensive coordinator this offseason. If anyone has to be told to play to win the game its Hackett.

The Jets are horrible. Theyre lucky if they get 9 wins. None of the recievers have done shit, none of the QBs have done shit, Martin can easily be shut the fuck out by a decent defense and their defense will suck against every good offense.

WHY?!?!?!?! Look at how pitiful the players are playing! Look at the pitiful coaching going on from the sidelines and the booth! Hell, whats the last big trade/signing they made? The Justin McCareins move? Barton? Tongue? Barret? I mean what has this guy done to deserve an extension?

Are you forgetting the team is 7-3 and the play of Jonathan Vilma?

The McCareins move is nowhere NEARLY as bad as the Matthew Hatchette, or the Curtis Conway move. Plus, Jonathan Carter was a nice pickup, as was the Quincy Carter pickup.

Tongue WAS a good signing, he just hasn't played up to expectations.

Pete Kendall?

The new defensive coordinator?

I will guarantee you that the re-signing of Bradway is hinging on him terminating Hackett at the end of the season.

Welcome back Chad!

Very nice win. Offense and defense looked AWSOME in the second half. This was a must win game, and they took care of buisness. Baltimore's loss was a bonus. Now if they win two of the last four, they should get in (Thank you Cinci!). I think the Pittsburgh game is a loss, but have a good feeling about the Pats game. I just hope they win the Seahawk and Ram game as they should.

Just so everyone can get a firm grip on how the wildcard scenarios will play out...

It's pretty much a given that the Patriots will clinch the AFC east. The rest of their schedule is ridiculously easy outside of the Jets. (Bengals, Niners, Miami)

The Jets pretty much control their own destiny right now. They are in the #1 wild card spot, and lead that position by 2 games.

Right now, I'm considering any team that has 6 wins alive for a playoff spot. That being said, the following teams are alive:

Denver, Jax, Baltimore, Bengals, the Jets, and yes, Buffalo.

Buffalo's remaining schedule: vs. Cleveland, @Bengals, @49ers, vs. Steelers.

Why you should be scared of Buffalo: a very easy schedule - it's not hard seeing them run the table in this situation, especially if the Steelers clinch early. They won't play the first team the entire game out of fears of injury. Then again, they have Drew Bledsoe as a QB, and they almost lost to Miami today. So it's not entirely hard to see them blowing up either.

Bengals: @NE, vs. Buffalo, vs. NY Giants, @Philadelphia.

An interestering schedule. A wildly inconsistent team that's been throwing up an insane amount of points lately. It's possible to see them win 3 out of four, especially if the Eagles play soft in Week 17.

Baltimore: @Giants, @Colts, @Pittsburgh, Miami. Ridiculous schedule. The loss today hurt them a LOT. If they lose to the Giants, it's over.

Denver: Miami, @KC, @Tenn, Indy. It'll be interesting. Again, with the last game on their schedule, it'll be Peyton Manning playing in Denver in January. Think about that.

Jacksonville - Chicago, @GB, Houston, @Oakland. They can definitely run the table here. This is why 10-6 is the benchmark to make the wildcard in the AFC.

What killed the Jets was the loss to the Ravens. If the Jets won that game, the complexion of the Patriots rematch would be incredibly different.

The game that scares me the most on the Jets remaining schedule is the Week 17 match with Mike Martz. He's an asshole and loves playing football without honor, especially being in a spoiler position.

Despite Hackett the Jets are 9-3 thanks to a very good defense. What really sucks if we run the table ( lol ) and end up 13-3 we will not get a home playoff game, unless the Patriots really collaspe.

FUCKING JEROME BETTIS MAN! That was fucked up what he did to them! They kept themselves in the game up to that point too. Decent game offensively considering they were playing against one of the best Ds in the league. I was happy to see Hackett call for some deep passes even though only one of them was caught. Solid effort by the defense right up until the end of the 3rd quarter. They did a good job stopping Rothlesberger but couldnt stop Bettis. I think the Jets could win 2 of their last 3 games. Seattle and St. Louis are both pretty vulnarble and the Jets D would stop them both. Dont see them beating the Pats tho...

I have been a Jets fan for the past 16 years since I moved to this country. Jets fan are some of the most dedicated, hardcore, rabid fans in the NFL. We live and die with Gang Green and we fucking deserve better than this.

If Paul Hackett is the Offensive Coordinator of this team come next season I'm turning in my membership. And if Chad Pennington doesn't like it, he's more than welcome to go with him.

Herm gets one more chance. People say he is a great motivator, that these players will walk through fire for him. That's all well and good; he should go get a job coaching in the Fire Walking League because he's supposed to be getting men to play football. If he can't do that, get someone who can.

Its a shame that the offensive play calling/offense is this bad considering they have such a good defense. With a tailback as good as Martin. A WR crew as good as the one they have with Moss, McCareins, Chrebet, and recently Cotcherry. An Offensive line that protects the QB as well as the Jets OT does. They should be at least 13-2 right now. The fact that they are 10-5 and might possibly miss the playoffs is pathetic.

I listened to 1050 today and the host stated that the Jets need a speedy wide reciever to spread the offense. Isn't that what Santana Moss is for????

Does it look like Chad throws into double and triple coverages alot of times??

Why did they run Martin too much during the game??? You need him fresh for the play-offs.

And what's with the calling of time-outs during certain parts of the game???

Fuck another Wide Receiver. Chrebets gone, but I like Cotcherry and Carter as the 3 and 4 guys. Baker should just be play 90% of the passing plays because Becht is apparently incapable. And the time outs really get to me as well.

I love that Martin only beat out Alexander for the rushing title by just 1 yard.
Theyre still not sure that Chrebet will be available for next weeks game vs. SD. Maybe its just me, but does 6 concussions sound like way too many. Guy had a good run but I think it may be time to hang it up...

They have to call the obvious calls, and clubbing the quarterback in the helmet with your forearm is obvious.

That contact was AFTER the play,

Exactly. that's kind of a requisite of a roughing the passer call.

I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty, and should be called most of the time. But at the end of a playoff game, a penalty which does not effect the execution of the play, can be let go. They used to do it all the time 10-15 years ago. It was a unwritten rule that you eat your whistle in the last 2 minutes.

You sir, are either not a football fan, or did not watch the game. You say "if not for stoner surfer Nate" quote is idiodic. If not for Barton's stoner move, Nate would not have gotten a shot to win the game. The Jets outplayed San Diego @ every postiton on the field except nose tackle and MAYBE TE (That bum Becht actually caught a TD). You Jet bashers can all eat me. My team is still alive. That is all that matters. I got another two weeks then your team. Oh, and as for "backing in" to the playoffs, they take the team with the best record after 16 games, it's not who-wins-the-last-game-is-in.

Jets playe well, Hackett called decent plays except for the damn 3rd and 6 4 yard passes.

Jordan looked good, Curtis doesn't age and Moss has an extra gear. Also, McCareins has great hands.

Unless the Broncos make a stunning comback (as I type they just made it 35-17) the Jets will get the Steelers, which I think is a better match up for them. I do realize that they are the fourth best team in the AFC (which may make them the fourth best team in the NFL!), but if the Colts can score a bunch of points against the Pats, and the Jets can stop the very average Steeler offense, how would you like a Colt/Jet AFC title game?

Eh, it's only a thought. At least I can still dream, we are still alive!

Oh, and I was listening to ESPN radio on the way to the food store, and they said Beltran is a "done deal" with the Mets. Ah, things are comming up roses in New York.

So the Jets can just go about dishing out forearms to the head all free and clear because its the end of the game and its after the play? No way. The play wasn't close. It was a late, unneccessary, stupid, hard blow to the head of the quarterback. Defensive players aren't supposed to touch the quarterbacks head at all. If it was a glance or a nick they would have let it pass at that stage of the game. But it wasn't; Barton clubbed him.

Duke, I am guessing you where out last night and did not see the game. The only position on the field that the gay bolts out played the Jets was the friggin nose tackle. Even the Jets TE's played as well as Gates.

So, you had one position better, and one tie.

As for Giant stadium, I do not think you understand that it is not owned by the Giants. So the fact that we play in the swamp has nothing to do with anything but Leon Hess's obsesion with bathrooms.

As for going outside, I was a very good athlete, unfortunatly I have not played a sport in the last year and a half due to my sixth knee surgery, but will be getting back out there in the spring after the longest layoff in my 41 years thanks to a brace by Lenny Butler, the guy who makes the braces for New Yorks winning team, the Jets.

Well, for one, I wanted to see more Lamont Jorden at the end. He has been so explosive late in games. And the clock managment at the end of regulation was down right bizzare. They call a time out with six seconds left, just to have Chad take a knee and move them back two yards to burn two seconds? What the fuck? And how about taking a lesson from last week when the Chargers just ran it into the line at the end of regulation only to miss a 40 yarder. We did the EXACT same thing. Why not try and pick up one more first down so it is a chip shot?

Eh, at least the players like him. Unlike the mess in the other locker room at the meadowlands where the entire team hates the coach.

Nitpick. Martin was fine. You like that first down Martin gave you?

. They call a time out with six seconds left, just to have Chad take a knee and move them back two yards to burn two seconds? What the fuck?

What they were doing was taking 2 seconds off the clock, so the Steelers couldn't run another play and centering the ball for the kicker.

And how about taking a lesson from last week when the Chargers just ran it into the line at the end of regulation only to miss a 40 yarder. We did the EXACT same thing. Why not try and pick up one more first down so it is a chip shot?

Because your within your kickers range, and if they run another play and fumble the fuckin ball, now your strategy is a collossal disater. I'd rather take a kick when I think I can make it than get greedy and fuck up everything. The right move.

Eh, at least the players like him. Unlike the mess in the other locker room at the meadowlands where the entire team hates the coach.

Agreed. And they play hard for him.

From my Xanga entry:

I'm glad the Jets lost, even though I'm a New Yorker, and I'll tell you why. Championships are EARNED, not given. The Jets made the playoffs because of the fact that the Bills lost to the Steelers. The Jets actually lost and got the ok from the Bills lost, and then half assed their way to OT today, missed TWO field goal attempts, and got what they deserved: an L. Also, the Jets have been so damn questionable this season since they beat abunch low tier teams, and got their asses handed to them by the big dogs of both the AFC and the NFC. The Steelers on the other hand ended the undefeated winning steaks of the defending Champions, The Patriots, as well as The Eagles when they still had T.O., not to mention the Steelers 15-1 regular season record.

The Steelers earned their spot at the AFC division championships, and that's why they're going. The Jets dragged their ass for so long and got sent home packin'. That's why I'm happy that they lost.

Edit: And is it me, or does this face just scream "Fire me already!" What a choke....

The defense and the special teams (minus the kicker) held their own. But where was the offense. They didn't even score a touchdown. Also the offensive play-calling in the second half seemed too conservative like they wanted to hold onto the lead instead of going for the win.

And did anyone interview John Abraham after the game?? Was he as sad as the rest of the Jets players or he didn't care cuz he's out the door already?

The only thing I don't get is why the Jets took a knee during the end of the 4th quarter. They lost 2 yards and didn't even try to center the ball for field goal position. It made no freaking sense. Not that it mattered anyway- O'brien missed it. But for the Jets offense not to score a touchdown the whole game or not even getting close to one--the Jets were lucky to be in it at all.

Guess I am not the only one thinking that way, eh Bulldogcakes?

Definitely not, I've heard it alot since the game ended. I just disagree with it. Fans always want the ball thrown in the end zone every play, it just doesn't work. Give Hackett (who's gone) credit, they opened things up more this game. Threw the ball downfield took chances . . .and what happened? 3 offensive points. And they ended up wasting downs on incomplete passes that they could have moved the ball on.
They lost this game because the KICKER fucked up. Period. He makes the EXACT same kick he did before (From 48, was just short) from the 43, the Jets win. But he tried to kick harder, and yanked it. Kicker fucked up.

Bro, I aint saying throw the ball in the end zone in that situation, just take a lesson from your win seven days earlier when S.D. settled on a 40 yarder. They had time on there side and all three T.O.'s (for the first fucking time all year). Try to move closer. If Pitt had not moved the ball five yards closer on there final possesion, we would still be playing. That kick just made it, five more yards and it's a miss.

Why in the hell would you guys franchise tag abraham. He already proved he wont play if he is kinda hurt in a walk year cause he doesnt wanna cost himself money next season, so what do we do. Give him a 1 year franchise contract. Thats smart, now, he not only doesnt have a choice where to go, but he doesnt get to nogotiate his salary OR get a signing bonus. yea he is gonna be real happy about that

No NO NO! I dont want him here! Especially if we have to give up young defensive players in the deal....I really hope the Ravens give them an offer that the Jets just cant type...especially since the Ravens missed out on T.O. last year....

I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about.
