Now it;s no secret that I live in the Bucks County suburbs of Philadelphia and i love my sports teams down here and I listen to WIP down here quite often. The one host Howard Eskin (also on George Michael's Sports Machine) has been talking about his son's venture back to USC and his tour of the Quest for the Best Hot Dog in the country.
HOT DOG TOUR 2004 (http://hotdogtour.blogspot.com/)
Pretty impressive so far and from hearing him on air today apparently they have had a diversion from Hot Dog's to KC BBQ and Texas Steak's and general slop nationwide. I would LOVE to do a trip like this. Apparently there is a film being made also. I was not able to view the Trailer but if anyone can, let me know how it is.

You've obviously never had a Rut's Hut hot dog.

I don't support this.
Hot dogs are foul.

Reservoir Dogs too...
can't say i've ever really had a 'bad' hot dog... except a place called The Windmill in Howell or Freehold... it was long and the skin was thick and hard with a bad taste
i'm sure McGreevey would've enjoyed it though...

I may have to agree with Alice on this one. A Nathan's hotdog is always great.
One of the best places to get a dog is Yankee Stadium

Hot Dog Johnny's in Buttzville, NJ. Really.
Honorable Mention to Jimmy Buff's, if you have time for an angioplasty afterwards.

Thanks to Monsterone for my first sig.Rutt's Hut
It's a little tricky to find the first time, but take Route 21 North (5 or 10 minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel) off of Route 3 and get off at the first exit, which comes up pretty fast. Make the left before the dead end and another left and you're there. Going back, make a right out of Rutt's and go past where you turned, and you'll find an entrance to 21 south.
Rutt's is famous for it's deep fried dogs.
And the mustard relish.
The dogs are specially made for them from a "secret recipe" and deep fried. One can get a hot dog, but what you really want is a "ripper." That's one that's been in there long enough to burst open a little. If you're really adventurous, you can try the "cremated," but be warned, it is an... ummm... acquired taste.
Just don't forget the relish.
There are other Joisey hot dog places, like Hanges and Johnny's, and the Windmill chain, but Rutt's is the place.
By the way, none of these places serve the Newark hot dog. (Don't ask, really.)

Crif Dogs, on St. Marks Place. They deep-fry the hot dogs. They make it any way you want and they are amazing. They have a breakfast hot dog thats deep fried, wrapped in bacon and topped with scrambled eggs and cheese.
Or Grays Papaya on 6th ave. and W. 8th Street. 75 cents a dog. Always best at 3:30 AM after a long night out.
