This show was the FOUNDATION of my Saturday morning cartoon lineup for many years. I was just thinking about it and I remembered the great characters like Roy Rooster and Sheldon. Garfield was the SHIT. They need to make a DVD, 'cuz I'd buy it.

Thios is one of the greatest and my biggest inspiration to draw in the first place. Now Garfield stinks but Jim Davis was my childhood idol. The Garfield book Volume 3 How To Draw Garfield was my birth as an asrtist.

I was too old for the cartoon, but I loved the comic strip when I was a kid - I had all the books, and eventually gave them to my godsons, who also loved them.

...and WHERE is Nermal? WHERE is Lyman? WHY is Odie not CG in the movie? THAT disGUSTS me! Is Liz still in the comic strip? I don't even know cause it is just not the Garfield I grew up on.

What year did Jim Davis stop doing any work on the strip? I know his name is on the strip still, but it's now "Jim Davis Studios." His "Assistants" write and draw everything.

I just received my "Garfield & Friends" Volume 1 DVDs and I now feel great about life.


However, I gotta say, this DVD could only satisfy the most hardcore of fans, simply because it really is just the BARE MINIMUM. The DVD menus are skin-and-bones, there's no music or fun dynamic buttons or animations going on. It's simply a background image and some point-and-click. NO special features whatsoever. I would've really appreciated a commentary from Davis or some original cel art or comic strips even... anything at all. And the compression on the episodes is terrible. No digital cleaning up was done. It's literally been transferred straight from the original tapes to a DVD... There's even white noise when things get quiet!

So, while you really get NOTHING BUT the episodes themselves, I'm still satisfied cuz I got it on eBay for 10 bucks cheaper than what it normally costs. But since they called this box set "Volume 1", I imagine there are more on the way. Hopefully they will learn from this one and not half-ass Volume 2.

That farm segment in the show always sucked the garfild core of it was the best part. The Clown was the best character.
