This is the fight that has consumed the workplace today. Then again...

WHERE ARE THE DIVIDING LINES FOR NORTH, CENTRAL, AND SOUTH JERSEY?

My school of thought has ALWAYS been that the dividing lines have been area codes.

201 and 973 = North Jersey

732 and 908 = Central Jersey

609 and 856 = South Jersey

It then mutated to the dividing lines being Rt 78 and Rt 195 as the dividing lines.

Anyone else have any theories?

195 is too far north to mark off the end of Central Jersey. I'd say anything south of Toms River is South Jersey.

Central Jersey begins in Hunterdon and ends at Ocean.

North Jersey - Anything above the Driscoll Bridge on the Parkway over there in Edison.

South (and worthless) Jersey - everything else.

Not to be a killjoy or anything, but as a Verizon representative, I must point out the flaw in this theory.

There is a large portion of the 609 area code, and a small portion of 856, that are further Northwest than parts of 732.

Ex: Princeton (609) is much farther Northwest than Toms River (732).

Using coastal landmarks I consider the tri-sect as follows...

North Jersey: Anything North of the Driscoll bridge.

Central Jersey: Anything between the Driscoll bridge and Bayville (coincidentally the end of 732 area code).

South Jersey: Starts at Forked River.

Extend a latitude Westward from these points to section off the imaginary borders.

And if possible, just ignore Southwest Jersey altogether.

Anytime I'd get a call from a customer in SW Jersey, before they even would tell me their number I already had 609 written down on my notepad.

"Wut's goein awn oever 'ner et my phoene?

I 'on't unnerstan"

Aneurysm ensues.

I think about this all the time. I take it like this. Parkway has 175 or so exits. divide that in thirds and you get about 60 exits or so per division.

0-60 south
61-120 central
120 and above North.

It almost works out, except if you use the bridge as north, then it would have to start at 130 or so (i forget the exact exit)
