I remember when this happened and just feeling awful for this couple. Left alone in the ocean. Probably eaten by sharks.
I'm looking forward to seeing Open Water (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374102/). It opens tomorrow.
So the original story has been back in the news - but there is so much more. A real mystery.
Dying at Sea. Probably. (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/01/movies/MoviesFeatures/01HORW.html?adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1091718846-6Q/ye3/Octt+kwyu0Um0wg)

Damn straight. If this movie is a bit hit, you'll see the birth of an urban myth on a global scale.
Although almost at that stage in Australia and the diving community, soon we may see it everywhere, with people thinking "Was it suicide? Murder? Or an awful accident?"
They'll be a lot more Thomas and Eileen Lonergan "sightings".

looks good, i enjoy movies that take place at the beach or in tropical locations... I just bought the Leonardo movie The Beach and a couple guys there got bitten up, they made it look like the real sharkbite pictures you can see on the net...
i sometimes think about being in that situation and would i attempt to drown myself before i get bitten and eaten, after getting bit(then you know you're done), or just go into shock?

The chick in the flick is damn hot.
The movie itself is pretty good, but only once they get in the water. You have a good half-hour of build-up before then, and since it's shot on digital video, it very much has that "home video" feel, when clearly it's not supposed to. Yeah, I know it was made on the cheap, but it really kills "the mood" before the good stuff start.
The primitive nature of the filming works fantastically once they're trapped out in the ocean, since you definitely get a "you are there!"-sense from everything. Apparently they layered the two actors up with chainmail suits under their wetsuits, and they still got all bruised and cut up from the sharks. A few of the "attack" shots are clearly a view of a shark coming for the camera, and then a cut to an actor reacting with nothing even remotely near him, but for the most part, the illusion works. Very creepy, and definitely one of my worst nightmares come to life on the big screen.
