A very impressive push for the president's ousting. A majot difference it will not make, but might help gather some more votes against Bush.

I'm sorry but political concerts where they try to make voting look "hip" are the gayest shit ever.
I'm at a concert to get my mind OFF of things like politics.

Dave Matthews standing next to Silvio is hysterical. I got an email about this concert today through Dave's website and while i'm interested in the line-up (Dave Matthews and Ben Harper specifically) i'm so not interested in the point of the concert. The only show I can make is in Gainsville Florida, 5 hours away from where I live. Who knows? maybe i'll buy a ticket, but it's doubtful.

Long story short - NONpartisan rock concerts are cool.
Complete and total partisan concerts, like this, are not.

I love you. And you are really right.
I'm at a concert to get my mind OFF of things like politics.
I love you more, and you're 100% right. I went to a Alkaline Trio show and Senses Fail opened up for them. The lead singer of senses fail said, "Vote against Bush! We need tog et him out of office!" He was talking to a bunch of teenagers. Alkaline Trio came out and played their song that's on the Rock Against Bush album and then said, vote against Bush, if you want. Or vote for him, do what you want. They played it cool because they knew no one cared.

This is exactly the reason the new Beastie Boys album sucks dick. EVERY song has some sort of political rant in it. I'm listening to the Beastie Boys to rock out and have a great time, not hear about how George Bush is killing democracy.
That, plus all the beats are techno.

If people at a show toss out little one-liners with a political edge at a show, I couldn't give less of a fuck.
But overtly-political music shows, of ANY political cause, and ANY musical genre? Bloooooooooooooooooooows.

No they don't.

Well, they're actually PRE-techno. It's throwback old skool hip-hop circa 1984.

You're at least a decade too late to think that rampant teenage apathy is somehow "awesome."

That's it.
It was a roundabout way, but we got to it.
A lot of it sounds like classic Mantronix or Afrkiaa Bambataa to me, which was definitely hip-hop, but with a "techno" vibe.

What's wrong with "Triple Trouble?" It's an "easy" sample, but that's a pretty unstoppable song as a club/party banger.
I like it just because lyrically it's their strongest album since CYH. The last two they really seemed to be letting the lyrics slack for the sake of just burying them in sample after sample.

Alright, so technically, a full THIRD of the album is politically-themed nonsense.
Jesus Christ, I'd rather listen to a Kevin Lyttle album.

couple of questions for everyone bashing this...
is an entertainer's opinion any more or less valid than your own?
If YOU have a right to give your opinions, politically or otherwise, within a medium available to you that will get it out to as many people as possible, i.e. a message board, that these people can't do the same, just because that stage (heh) is bigger than yours?
If an Entertainer has no right to voice his opinions, does a talking head who works for a tv news channel, (which remains entertainment, because they rely on ratings), or a book writer, all with questionable credentials, also have no right to give his opinion?
Or does this all only apply when their opinions or political stances differ from your own?

yes, but the growing school of thought seems to beleive that an opposing viewpoint needs to be completely silenced, and when you have a news media who's best financial interests are to be completely biased towards the Neocons, it's the only other outlet where an opposing viewpoint can be heard, and of course the Neocon response is complete dismissal and disregard:

They can say what they want, I for one, don't go to see a band because of their political beliefs. Besides, everyone going to these shows will already be anti-Bush. They're preaching to the choir.
And didn't the elad singer of Pearl Jam get his ass kicked by Johnny Ramone because he was talking shit about Bush at a concert?

and he had hoped all the politcs would lead up to the show, and when the show starts, it would just be about the music ...
going into this you would expect a fair amount of rambling pop stars, most of these artists wear their politics on their sleeve anyway ...
