It is illegal to keep monkeys as pets in New York City, but permits are given for those trained to help the disabled.

James,

Lighten up a little brother, the guy is disabled and you don't know whether the kid was pulling the tail or fur as the guy said.

Put down that espresso right now...

Ok call me Deraily De-Railerton, but I have to confess, because of that stupid howard cosell incident, whenever I see a phrase like 'keep monkeys as pets' I think of some horrific racist Joke about black people.

And i'll tell ya, Never ever did I associate the term, used a zillion times as a kid, ya know, 'Wow, Fred climbed that thing like a fucking Monkey' and it had Zero, Nada, Zilch with anything other then that, up the thing as quick as a monkey.

Is it me or did that incident change anyone else? Its a ways back so many might not remember. Someone can tell it better, but Cosell was on TV doing a Monday Night Football [?] game when a player [?] was getting some serious running yardage, and Cosell said, i think: 'Look at the little monkey go.' or something similar. And it was this huge controversy, Cosell was accused of racism, things got weird, it was obsesed on, and I think it fucked me up.

Sorry, resume thread. I'm gonna go punish myself for impure thoughts.

OK. I feel for the guy, but have someone else do your food shopping for you. There are plenty of services out there that do it. I'm not saying he can't shop at any store with his monkey - just don't bring the monkey to the store where I'm buying food for my family. If I'm buying tomatoes I don't need to find monkey hairs on the ones he didnt pick. Plus, how do we know that his diaper was changed before he was sitting on the produce as he chose the freshest and ripest plum?

Hmmmm....freshest and ripest plum

No Tall James, I think your assesment of the guy was correct with your topic title, as I read the Daily News article:

Chimps chomps boy (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/local/story/218413p-187866c.html)

But some neighbors said they have seen Seidler doing chores in the yard and doubt the monkey is more than an exotic pet - which would make it illegal in the city. Seidler, an Orthodox Jew, dismissed such comments as anti-Semitic.

Oh, question the monkey and you're anti-Semitic? That is the dumbest thing I ever heard.

Having worked for a grocery chain, I would worry about other things than like people sneezing/ picking whatever orifice and glomming on the fruit before I would worry about monkey hair. Besides you really need to wash anything you buy at a grocery store that isn't prepackaged.

I actually know this monkey! She bit my wife when visiting a cousin's house. My wife wasn't hurt but she sure was pissed. The monkey got so wild that they had to give it to her father. (Her father is the guy in the picture.) And as far as we know he is not handicapped.

No, he is not handicapped. He built his own wooden ramp(before city funding installed a new iron ramp) to get to the front door, and is often seen pushing his wheelchair around the neighborhood.

The kid most likely hurt the monkey in some way, because unless it was autistic, the monkey wouldn't just randomly bite without being provoked.
