Apparently, the Enola Gay is on the tarmac.
"We're getting late word from the Opie and Anthony camp that they most likely will be at the Hard Rock Cafe this thursday at noon with a HUGE announcement concerning their future. They've never asked much from their fans but they're looking for a lot of people to show up at the Hard Rock Cafe this thursday at NOON to show support! I'm aware that this is such last minute but please do your best. The Hard Rock Cafe is located on 57th between 7th ave and Broadway. Please try to be there and pass this on to as many people as possible!!!"

I mentioned it in the "Quitting Your Job Swan Song" thread.
Thanks to my quitting today, I'll be able to make it to the Hard Rock on Thursday.

The sad postscript to this story is now that you don't have a job, you can't afford to listen to Opie and Anthony.

How is that even a question in your mind?
I'm a fan of Opie & Anthony. I loved their show, I've supported their cause, and I've waited for their return.
If they are gonna announce something major, I wanna be the first to hear it. If they're inviting fans to a public event, I'll be there.
That doesn't mean I have $99 for a satelite radio plus $X per month for the service in my budget.
It's very simple. I don't even understand why I just had to explain that.

CHawk-
Good point. I thought you were implying that you were gonna SU the xm/sirius feed.
Folks, there's a difference between SUing Ron and Fez (not readily available in our market) and SUing O&A (straight out theft)
I think whichever satellite company gets them, it would be SUICIDE for them not to offer some sort of discounted package deal on equipment to maximize subscribers.

Hell, I'll probably buy satellite if I find out that's where O&A will be.
It's not like I'm not paying for "free" radio as it is now.
VIP status means you get certain guarantees, but you gotta pay.
And I gotta hear my current favorite radio show, so I voluntarily pay whatever fees are required to allow (guarantee) me to hear it.
So, if I pay for "free" radio, I may as well pay for satellite and HEAR WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT, ANYWHERE I WANT.
I hope R&F & O&A both go to satellite.

How does it work with Satellite radio? Are the shows commercial free? Will that mean that talk shows will be 2 1/2 hours long instead of 4?
Are the hosts able to say ANYTHING they want?
Is it live or simulcast? If it is live...can listeners participate via phone & internet while the show is happening?
Etc etc.

Now I am a bit ignorant about how radio works but if O & A do indeed go satellite, will there also be markets who can pick them up and air the broadcast? I realise there would be censoring and it wouldn't be live but I figure what the hell? I just have no desire to ge tthe satellite radio as I feel it is a waste. Yes, what I have heard was O K but nothing I couldn't pull out of my own CD collection and listen to. When there are more localized stations (sportstalk primarily) then maybe I will considr it. Like if some Infinity sports stations woul dbecome available, THEN it would be ideal.

From OPIEANDANTHONY.COM
Hey guys! It's official ANthony and I have signed with XM Satellite Radio and
we couldn't be happier! This is the natural next step for our show. We get our
freedom back to do a funny, clever, entertaining and at times (wink wink) edgy
show that our fans have enjoyed for the past 10 years! We're still figuring out
all the details but we'd like to broadcast our first show in over 2 years live
from a venue to be named later on October 1st! It's going to be a huge
celebration. Until then we plan on traveling the country visiting our fans to
personally thank them for their support and turning them on to the excitement of
XM Satellite Radio!
Please join us today at noon at the Hard Rock Cafe on 57th street between 7th
avenue and Broadway as we field questions from the media.........UGH! Beer will
flow!
Finally, I want to take this time to thank our fans for their continued support
over the past 2 years. Because of you the Opie and Anthony show never
officially went away. The amount of O&A material that continues to be traded on
the internet around the world is astounding! Thanks to:

Stern said he won't go to the same company that O&A go to. So fans of both are going to have to pay. I think I'll go with XM and O&A if I had to choose.
Right now it would be worse than just paying for two different packages since (I believe) there isn't one system that can play both. So, they would have to buy XM AND Sirrus packages, and then different receivers. Just nutty.
Besides, life is too friggin short to be wasting it making sure I get my money's worth with radio. I can't image ever paying for it, even if Stern and Ron and Fez left the free airwaves. I already consider cable a fringe luxury I can live without.
Never say never, but I really doubt I need that in my life.

Ok, let me get this straight. You have to buy the system, subscribe for 10 dollars a month, and then have to pay 2 bucks EXTRA to listen to a talk show?
That's getting a little ridiculous.

The stock has shot up like $1.50 per share (5%). Hope they got some stock options with that contract!!
I am happy for them and hope this works out. It could really mean a fundamental change in the way people listen to radio. FM could in a few years be like AM is now. Not really used or listen to by many people. And XM could really make a huge wave in radio.
This is either a really big first step or a really huge mistake. only time will tell.
I wonder how long they signed for?

O&A To XM, But You'll Have to Pay Extra To Hear 'Em - 8/5 - It's official. DC's XM Satellite Radio officially announces the arrival of Opie and Anthony, via xmradio.com. But there's a catch. You'll have to pay extra - a fee of $1.99 per month per radio - to hear them via a new Opie and Anthony-only channel - 202. That's on top of XM's $9.99 monthly fee. The first show will air in October, live in morning drive (and repeated throughout the day). "This is the natural next step for our show," according to a Thursday communique from the duo. "We get our freedom back to do a funny, clever, entertaining and at times (wink wink) edgy show that our fans have enjoyed for the past 10 years." O&A have been off of Infinity's airwaves (including from WJFK-FM) since that "sex in a church" stunt in 2002. The latest communique is in DCRTV's 8/5 Mailbag.....

No I do not think that WJFK will allow Ron and Fez talk about O and A.
Up until last week, I thought the same thing. However, when they were doing a segment on who was the most trusted newsman, somebody called and offered up Howard Stern. Ron pointed out that he wasn't really a newsman, and his current free speech stance is a tad hypocritical given that when O&A and D&M talked about him, he had Infinity muzzle them.
That was the first time I can remember O&A being explicitly mentioned on the air on WJFK since O&A got cancelled.

Opie and Anthony to satellite radio was a foregone conclusion. I thought it would be Sirius but, in reality, it makes little difference. It's a necessary move for them under the current climate.
BUT: A premium channel in Morning Drive is the fast lane to obscurity. Yes, there will be an initial bump in subscribers for XM. All of that will be based on their history. Some of their hardcore fans will jump at any opportunity to hear them. That's terrific... in fact, it's a tribute to their fan base loyalty. The problem is that new listeners who are unfamiliar with them will not be able to easily find them. It's hard enough on a pay service and now it's even more difficult given there's another subscription fee on top of the one already demanded by XM.
On top of that, this will be an AM Drive show. That means they're in direct competition with Stern. If it were a level playing field (both on open air or both on satellite) that would be fine. But now you're asking the same listeners (like it or not, both shows appeal to the same demo) to pick between the two. One is free, the other you have to pay for. Who do you think is going to have a big edge under those circumstances? I would absolutely have left them *live* in PM Drive on the theory that the they need to re-establish their listener base and that will be easier if they're back in the same daypart they were in before. If that worked out then, *maybe*, I'd move them.
One of the things that made this show work so well was the constant buzz it created. The publicity encouraged new listeners to sample the show and that, in turn, drove up the ratings. Under this model fewer will be able to sample the show and there is less incentive for them to given the daypart and the extra fee. Satellite radio was inevitable under the circumstances (which was bad enough but unavoidable). But AM Drive with an extra fee? Big mistake.
Just thought I would pass it along

What a fucking scam. Buy the equipment $10 bucks a month for basic and another $2 for something you want to listen to.
The next logical step for O&A seems to be the road to a mention on one of those VH1 "Where are they now?" shows.

All I want to know is if the Sirius & XM systems hook up the same way? I bought a Sirius Sat Radio-ready head unit for my car a month ago because it was on a ridiculous sale at 6th Ave Electronics ($99) and it played mp3s. If it's satellite radio-ready for Sirius, does that mean it's equally ready for XM as far as the connection goes, I wonder? I'm OK with having a Sirius logo on my faceplate with an XM receiver a few inches away if I don't have to buy $70 worth of connectors to hook it up.

Don't get me wrong, I love O and A. I've been patiently waiting for them to come back, and I've made plans on getting a reciever for whichever sattelite company carried OnA. This however bothers me.
Sure, the loyal fans will buy a subscription and pay for a premium channel, but the casual listener will not. The way to do this is to put them in the rotation of whatever hot talk station they have, let them gain an audience, and then charge extra.

for anyone that drives, satellite really is the way to go. little to no commercials, lots of music and talk choices, more than 10 songs in a rotation, and now O&A UNCENSORED. i would subscribe in a heartbeat if they made it portable. for me, O&A isnt just radio, its THE BEST DAMN ENTERTAINMENT i can find on a daily basis.

If you bought a GM car in the last few years, chances are you have an XM ready head unit already in there.
As for the price, well it is what it is. I think it was a stupid move, XM has 2 million subscribers who already ante-up for the 10 per month. It would have been great to let them listen to O&A and get hooked. They could have spread the buzz to others who would then subscribe to for the 10 bucks a month. I wish them the best of luck, and I think I will be subscribing come Oct 1.

I dont have a problem with spending two dollars. But I do have a problem with WASTING two dollars.
That two bucks only gets that one show, then they repeat that exact same show for the rest of the day??! That's weak. They need to add someting else to sweeten the deal. The average person doesnt listen to the entire show anyway. They listen for the duration of their commute.
If OnA did TWO shows a day (2 hrs in the AM and another 2 in the afternoon) then a lot more people might get excited.
Either way...there will be a huge spike in XM sales. Nice.

Thats a really good point. For the extra money you only get O&A, nothing else. if they maybe bundled it with some other programming or other stations it would be one thing. Or if for the money you could get an internet stream of it whenever you wanted. Something more. I did not even think about this, but alas, I will still be paying for the service regardless. Maybe in the future they will sweeten the deal to entice more subscribers.
Will they publish the number of subscribers to the premium channel?

The O&A all day thing doesn't sound worth it. Maybe if they have some old WNEW shows on there if that's not some kind of legal issue. I'd rather have an all talk station on XM with O&A in the mornings.

I have no idea what they will play in the intrum or at night. possibly comedy? I know they already have a comedy station. Bubba the love sponge? who knows, it will be interesting to find out. I am sure many more announcements will be forthcoming.
And Tenbat's, why are you suprised so many people are pissed? For one, no one likes change, especially when it cost money. We once had it for free, and now we have to pay. Take Soprano's. they were always on HBO so we always had to pay. Now, if everyone loved Chapelle's show and they decided that we were going to have to pay to get it, a lot of people would not pay.
Not everyone is so into radio. For most people, it is something to listen to on their 20-30 minute ride home. The people who take time to post on this or any radio board are the execption, not the rule. they are the hard core.

How are the people that paid XM $143.76 a year (not including the purchase price of the receiver/tuner), just to hear O&A, going to feel when they go on their first extended vacation?
People scream and go nuts with the free shows that take some time off - what about one that people are paying extra for?? It's not like they are going to have a depth of material they are going to be allowed to play when their Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks come - no classic WNEW bits.

Here's my cynical view -- the hardcore established fans will have no problem paying the extra $2, but XM is handicapping itself with regard to establishing new fans. If you don't know O&A, why would you pay an additional fee to check them out. Even if they established a non-premium station of older bits, that might be enough for new listeners. After all, everything on a "best-of" station would be new to someone unfamiliar with O&A. XM knows this, and eventually, they will get rid of the "premium" status so that all XM subscribers can listen to the show. This is just a way to maximize the amount of money that they can get from the hardcores early on.
But that's just me. As I said, I'm a cynic.
In direct response to Tenbats' horror that anyone would balk at paying $12 a month for O&A (on top of equipment charges), it's a simple question of value. Some people would pay $100 a month to hear O&A again, some wouldn't pay a dime. Not everyone values O&A the same as you do, so don't admonish those who don't see things the way you do.
As for it only being $12, in and of itself, $12 a month isn't much for the average person, but satellite radio is a luxury, not a necessity. As such, it is in competition with all of the others of life's luxuries that require monthly fees, such as cable TV, internet access, cell phones, blackberries, online gaming, porn sites, TiVo, etc. The cost of all these fees can be prohibitive, so you have to factor in what it is you really want. For some, a cell phone, premium cable, TiVo service and broadband internet access might be more important than hearing O&A.
Whether XM will be able to air older bits during vacations is another story. I suppose that has to do with O&A's contract with Infinity (i.e. whether O&A or Infinity own the shows). I don't know the answer to that question, but I seem to recall that O&A used to occasionally play bits from the WAAF days on WNEW, so who knows.

yeah i think the premium thing is not a good way to get new listeners but hopefully xm will stop that .
on the point of money . im on a very limited budget. but i can swing the xm no problem. for people on a tight budget all u need to do is buy 3 less packs of smokes a month or eat at home 1 extra night a month and theres your 15 bucks. i know this kinda sucks, but if you really want to hear OnA you can find a way to pay for it. just cut something that you dont need out. i NEED OnA so ill find a way.

Admonish?? Nice word choice! There is an SAT word for ya!
You basically type exactly what I was thinking. i do not think this premium subscription will go on much longer. The only thing they can do is raise the cost of the service to 12.99 or whatever Sirius charges.
They can also offer the discount to 9.99 if you sign up for 1 yer. I think they may have to go this route eventually

While not a fan of taking on any more monthly bills, I am a realist. The only way we had to get the bubububoys back was to have them go sattelite. So now I have to got buy some hardware (Something for the car and home) and pay a monthly fee. I also see the point and agree with many who say that they are limiting their audience by charging $2 extra for the show. But that being said, anyone who gives a shit about the show who has stated that the $2 is the reason they are not going to buy XM is fucking retarded or the worlds biggest cheap ass loser! $2 a month? It is less then seven cents a fucking day for gods sake. Pick up two cans off the street and return them in your local deli you cheap fucks.

My admonishment is reserved for the cheap thieving fucks who say they won't pay for it and plan to get it streamed via Grand Theft Syndication.
If you won't pay for it and you won't listen, fine. That's not a problem.
If you stir up shit and say you won't pay for it but you'll go about it other means, especially when the cost is 15 dollars a month - FIFTY FUCKING CENTS A DAY - you are a thief.
This isn't Ron and Fez syndication underground, where it's free. This is a premium service, offered to everyone.
Here's my question.
If XM offers an online stream of O&A for 6 bucks a month, with no equipment costs, would you pay for that? Chances are, that could happen.
And BTW, Curtoid, if O&A go on Extended Vacation, don't you think XM would pro-rate the subscriptions back to the listeners? If they didn't, it's opening a huge hole for a class-action lawsuit.
As for the "two hour radio shift" idea, have you ever listened to one of O&A's shows? They need an hour for build up at least on their big shows. The Homeless Shopping Spree had a huge 90 minute buildup, and then an 90 minute payoff, with a hour recap. Do you honestly think you can have a show build up like that? NO.
Even though Ron and Fez do a one hour show, they know it's a tease to their four hour show later. It's a fast hour.
I'll go over my points again, and I'll bullet them. Feel free to debate me. I don't get this hotheaded usually.
Using subversive means to get O&A's show on a live basis is theft, plain and simple. I can accept using day old MP3's downloads, but that's the extent of it.
Would you pay for a dedicated feed of O&A at a discounted rate, online only?
Two dollars and change until October first, then 50 cents a day.
"Extended Vacation" or something else is meaningless, because XM will probably rebate the money if O&A get fired. The small print will have to be read.
It seems that people will find a reason to bitch no matter what, when it's been readily accepted that O&A will be on satellite since Nipplegate.
Going against Stern in the morning WORKS. You give people a choice - you can listen to O&A live or on tape on the drive home. Besides, with a dedicated stream, O&A have the flexibility to switch to afternoons if it doesn't work.
A dedicated stream to O&A? WONA is finally a reality.
Would you complain about this 2 dollar premium charge if it became three dollars and R&F were on at night?

I don't know if this helps anyone, but XM gives discounts for multi-year deals. So if you signed up for 2 years, you'd only pay 8.96 a month, and your O&A would effectively be only $1 a month extra.

Might I point out as well to the people who are still planning to access O&A via some illegal means -- Finding a consistent way to do this might not be as easy as you think, and may be more hassle than it's worth. Infinity probably wasn't thrilled about SU, but people listening to that weren't directly taking money taking money from Infinity. However, on satellite, every listener listening on a feed, represents a person that should be paying for XM service -- it's like stealing cable. Expect XM to come down hard on illegal feeds.

Off-topic, but they don't anymore, really. At one point R&F did a 1 hour show at 11:00 am topical show called "The Fastest Hour in Radio". Then from 7:00-10:00 pm they did a live show, and from 10:00-11:00 pm, they replayed the "Fastest Hour" from earlier in the day.
Since they have been syndicated to Baltimore and Tampa, that has changed. They now do a live "Fastest Hour" from 7:00-8:00pm and then their regular show from 8:00 to 11:00 (really just one 4-hour show). On WJFK only, they do a replay of the previous night's "Fastest Hour" at 11:00 am.

TOBY KEITH!
I have made a bit of a turn in my previous stance on XM and you know, I have been thinking about it and if worse comes to worse I can always tape the show. Eddie Trunk is also on XM now and that would be an added bonus as I can't receive the Q104 signal anymore.
Tenbats is right about the theft as I guess it could be comparible to cable theft. This is kind of like radio cable. I want to hear O & A again and I think it is a big risk for mornings to go up against Stern.
But what if they succeed? This could open the doors for OTHER talk shows of the same genre to go onto XM in the future. O & A I see as they are pioneering this format onto XM and who knows, give it a year, it may succeed. All depending on the contract status for subscribers I could suck it up for a year and if I cdon't like the XM, I can always cancel it.
Don't the XM units (for those who have it) have outputs that I could for my own PERSONAL use feed it through my computer and make CD's for my car so I could listen to it whenever I want to? I see the units at Wal-Marts all day and I never looked. Looks like I have a prokect for tomorrow.

To answer some of the questions I've read: There is XM equipment you can buy for under $50 http://www.xmradio.com/xmpcr/ most other XM equipment can be taken from the car, removed and played in the home. For the $11.98 you'd pay per month if you add O+A, you are getting over 100 different channels of music/talk/sports/traffic programming. Of course, most people will care less about a great deal of the channels, but it's definitely more of a variety than you're going to find on the radio in most cities. As for the $1.99/month, XM certainly is feeling the heat that the FCC who would LOVE to remove any "indecency" on satellite radio (for the CHILDREN of course). In case there is another "extended vacation", you are able to cancel. I'm sure in the early part of their run, there won't be as many commercials (due to parental/religious/wacko group pressure), or maybe even music played during any breaks. You can't expect them to have the 15+ minute breaks Stern has now.

here's a thought. when I worked in the city, I would get to the bus stop around 7am (10-15 min drive from my house), 1 hour bus ride (minimum), 15-30 min subway ride (locations varied), 8 hours at work and reverse the commute part. The time I'd most want to listen is when they are live and you can interract (web and phone). The interactivity was the biggest hook for me. I couldn't listen on my commute, which is about half their show because there's no XM walkman.

OK, no more fucking around. I came to see if there was news on O&A on this site today because Steels told me there was a big announcement. I clicked on this thread, and I can't get past Tenbat's arrogance.
HOW DARE anyone have an opinion other than yours. Sorry people's budget won't allow purchase of new equipment, installing it, the monthy fee and the fucking extra SLAP IN THE FACE charge. And at a GOD AWFUL HOUR. They will NOT even compete with Stern, and that is the truth.
How about OFFER O&A FOR FUCKING FREE for a month or 2, THEN charge. Get people hungry for the show and THEN charge. It's bad business. What makes more sense? I'm gonna get a show I like for a fee now that I started to like it, or I'm gonna try something out that I have no idea about for extra money?
That is Moe's opinion. I hope Tenbats can find it in his heart to allow me to voice it here without another FLAME WAR. Now the pansies can come out of the wood work to insult me. Have fun kids. See you in another few months probably.

And BTW, Curtoid, if O&A go on Extended Vacation, don't you think XM would pro-rate the subscriptions back to the listeners? If they didn't, it's opening a huge hole for a class-action lawsuit
Extended Vacation" or something else is meaningless, because XM will probably rebate the money if O&A get fired. The small print will have to be read.
Why would I assume anything? This is uncharted territory and XM is making up the rules as they go along. I would like to think that they would not charge susbcribers for month old reruns during the holidays, but if people want to insist in using cable television as a model, you pay just as much to watch reruns of the "Sopranos" as you do when the live ones aired.

Well, do you think your job wants to pay you when you go on vacation? No, but they do anyway. Kind of the same concept.
I'm actually hoping that when O&A signed the Infinity contract, they got to keep all their intellectual material... they can probably edit it for air on XM.

It would take more than O&A to get me to pay to listen to XM. There are several problems with their show being on satellite radio.
1. Anyone with a decent connection to the internet can listen to numerous 128k streams of commercial-free music that you don't normally hear on the radio. I could see paying $2 a month to listen to an uncensored O&A, but not $10 a month to listen to stuff I can get for free.
2. 6-10? Half the fun of the show was the interaction. Granted, there was a lot less interaction with the show when they started syndication. I'm not waking up at six in the morning just to send in an instant feedback. I'm also not going to pay extra money to listen to a rerun, even if it's a rerun of something that happened a few hours ago.
3. Why would someone in Omaha pay extra money to listen to something they've never heard? They should have a "first month free" kinda deal.
4. Are there going to be commercial breaks? I have a hard time believing they're going to do a show for four hours straight. If they do play commercials, that seems idiotic considering you're paying extra to listen to them.

1) Moe, I like you. I wish you were back on the board. But please stop the martyrdom. Its tedious. And it brings out obnoxious responses from the assholes lurking on the board.
2) Its a pointless waste of time to gripe about the cost of paying for O&A. We all knew that free radio wouldnt touch them and this is the only they can return. XM is in the drivers seat and im sure the pricing package is going to take some tweaking before they get it right. Just as most descent television is subscription based , so will radio be. They arent doing anything different than anyone else. And they will have more flexibility being off the airwaves(I hope)
3) Tens is 100% correct about any fuckers stealing the signal. Anyone who pirates a readily available feed is a fucking thief and pirating is ruining the whole entertainment field, costing money to people who legally buy their stuff. I don't remember reading on the bill of rights that everybody has an inalienable right to everything available in the entertainment field and if you cant afford it just steal it. Pay for it or shut the fuck up. Im sure if they could be , theyd be back on NEW.

ADF -
It's kind of hard to listen to Internet radio stations in the car. Considering that's where a lot of people listen to O&A, that's the first advantage. I drive about an hour every day to and from work. So I look forward to getting XM and trying it out. Even when O&A isn't on, or they are not talking about something that interests me, I can listen to all the other streams.
2) 6-10 does suck, but apparently, they might not stick to that format all the time. It's still very very fluid, hence the advantage of having a stream all to themselves.
3) Omaha isn't O&A's audience.
4) I'm not sure about commercials for breaks. Maybe music?

O&A are great, but I'd rather listen to an internet stream then have to get all that crap for XM. It would just be a waste, because I wouldn't be listening constantly. And if they do morning shows, I'm screwed, cuz I'm sure my college classes would get in the way. SU now.
O, and I doubt O&A will be cursing a lot on the show. I think they're smart enough to realize that they are funnier when they make up words rather than just curse directly. I think they even said in their last interview that they would curse that much on the show unless they really really needed to.
O, and hey Moe. How's everything?

What - there's no one in Omaha that likes to laugh?
I suppose if we were to apply that snob mentality to cable television (again), that we should remove the Chapelle Show from Comedy Central in Nebraska because it's not an urban market - never mind that David actually lives in rural Ohio.

All I'm saying is that O&A made first contact with XM a few months ago. They've had a lot of time to go over stuff, figure out the marketing plan, and what they think will work best.
They've been off the air for a while. I'm pretty sure they have a good handle on what they want to do.
Don't forget - they know the radio business. We don't.

I guess one way to look at it is that if you subscribe to satellite, you most likely have some extra cash to burn. Meaning you are probably middle class or higher. Also meaning you most likely have a good 9-5 job.
There is also the chance that they have at least a 1/2 hour commute, possibly much longer. You could also assume that most people have to be in work by 8 or 9, but, depending on the job may have to work OT or stay late for mettings. The morning will be good in this aspect, and the afternoon replay can let the other listen.
not being able to listen live is really not a big deal. A lot of people here listen to R&F through an illegal means, which is usually a day late.
Also, a lot of people listened to old O&A bits after they were kicked off the air. Its really not a big deal. I can bet 1/2 the people who listen wil never know if it live or not. People use to call in and try to get on during best of's all the time.
The hardcore fans are the ones upset. The other 90% of people who will be fans in the next year have NO idea this is even going on. most of their future listens have no idea who they even are yet.

Another thought I had (and boy, I have a lot of them)
Messageboard people are not the majority of O&A fans.
Regular posters, even. I would say that most fans are lurkers or aren't even aware of the boards.
That being said, the Internet is not the only medium people are going to find out about O&A. With two months before launch, I would not be shocked if XM launches into a huge promotion during the fall TV premiere season, or even buys advertising with the NFL or the WWE.
XM has had some very creative commercials, like the one with David Bowie crashing through the roof with Snoop Dogg. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an O&A commercial.

I thought it was a pretty light turnout, but there was really only 2 days warning, and it was during the week. Wasn't really meant for the fans, so much as the press.
As for the 2 dollar supplemental charge, it puts O&A in a premium status like HBO...above and beyond standard cable...
it further protects O&A from indecency indictments since not only people are paying for the service, they're paying for O&A specifically...
its a smart move...i for one will be buying it...i hope you all come and join in...
if we can make this successful for O&A maybe Ron & Fez will follow suit....

I'm glad they're back, but I'm definitely going to take a wait and see approach on this. I'll freely admit that listening to a SU stream would be theft, but I would like to hear the show a bit before I would consider spending money to get it.
Who knows how similar it will be to the old run? New time, new format (in terms of commercials, censoring of content) - and will it still have the interactivity that made it great? Additionally, to be honest, I was less of a fan of the later shows, once Norton was in there every day and it seemed to be comedian central. The best stuff, I thought, often just involved the two of them, early on. I feel like they might pick up where they left off, which I'd be less of a fan of.
The extra two dollar charge isn't excessive, but it seems a little strange, considering it's already a pay service. You'd think they'd want to expose their show to as wide an audience as possible, considering they're already restricted from being on a format with subscribers.
In any case, having to buy a whole new radio, plus subscribe... it's something I'd hold off on until I was sure it'd be worth it.

I dunno, Alk. I don't wanna get caught in their ingenious "let's set up a pretend welcome thread for the RF.net-ers and then really make fun of them when they post in it" trap. It worked so insidiously well last time, that they ended up jerking each other off for a week before it was finally abandoned.
You know what? I think the reason for my dislike of O and A is coming into a little better focus.

We can have the YMB thread simulator 3000. Someone will start a thread, then the same three people will post two-to-six word posts that are dripping with inside humor about four people get, then Silera steps in to tell them to knock it off, and then they all tool on Silera and call her out.
That about right?
Oh, and multiple shock posters.

For those who care, I spoke to someone from XM tonite.
The extra $2 a month gets you <B>ONE</B> extra station. O&A's and that's it. Even though it's all reruns when the station launches, it will be fully programmed by O&A and they can bring on anyone they want or play whatever they want. If you subscribe to the premium content now, you will not be charged for it until October, when that station launches. Then they gave me a free XM t-shirt ;)
To me, the only new news is that O&A is the only "premium" station, but we'll see what happens come October.

Good point. I thought you were implying that you were gonna SU the xm/sirius feed.
Folks, there's a difference between SUing Ron and Fez (not readily available in our market) and SUing O&A (straight out theft)
I aggree for the most part, SUing the XM is proably like commiting suicide. A bit different than SUing
R&F. Although, I hear that the R&F SU may be going down for good, at least thats the word
on the street as of 26-Aug-04. Thats kind
of a bummer, I'll miss listening to them.

The syndication underground network for the "Ron & Fez" show was down for several days due to changes that were made to secure our service. We have a Ron and Fez group on AOL (you do NOT need AOL to be a member of this group) that serves as a means of relaying all news and information regarding S.U. The people that are assuming that "Big Sexy" is no longer operational are the people that neglect my insistence to join the group because it is essential to be able to communicate about the show and any changes regarding our service. If anyone would like to join our group (over 1000 R & F fans worldwide) you can visit the website hyperlinked below and join, it is entirely free.

I think that is a very cynical way of looking at it. It would seem to me like they are just tryign to spread the word. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people on this country who have never heard of them. And a lot of people who have, and have no idea what happened after sex for sam. if you are not involved in the message board scene and were a listener, you really have no idea where the were going to wind up. i think the promotional tour is to get the word out (and of course gain some more subscribers), but also to reach people who may have never known about them.

I claim shenanigans on DCRTV.
I've been looking, non-stop, for the Roady2. I finally set up email alerts so I knew when it was in stock.
I called a MAJOR store and placed my order, and commented to the service person about how I've been looking all over the place for them.
Her: "You know, I'm wondering why. We got a shipment of 800 Roady2's in the other day, and they were gone WITHIN 12 HOURS."
Plus, rumors are flying right now that XM has gotten 500K more subscribers since the announcement. XM announces their subscriber numbers officially in Mid-October.
It doesn't make sense AT ALL.

XM just announced they are streaming over the net at 7.99 / month in Early October. No purchase of equipment needed.
No word on O&A, but I'm sure it can be integrated into the package.
If you didn't think they were gonna come down hard on SU feeds, think again. This is pretty much built to expand XM as fast as possible.

JP hit it right on the head. The whole purpose of SU was because Infinity wouldn't stream the boys and they wouldn't syndicate them, which was the whole rallying cry. Don't forget, a major part of O&A's paycheck probably comes out of people paying the premium fee, so basically anybody who does SU takes money directly away from O&A. This isn't a Napster/RIAA/Metallica thing.
Ron and Fez is different.
So O&A is now available in your office and on your computer. Getting it on your computer is cheap and convienient...
The main complain BEFORE was that people didn't want to pay for the equipment. Now you don't have to, and the only complaint left is that you don't want to pay for radio. So then don't listen. You have no right in this situation, XM is making it as easy as possible.
Edit: The money issue. Even if it's 7.99 to stream plus the 2 dollars for 0&A, that comes down to about 33 cents a day. If you don't want to pay, I say it again - you're a cheap thief.

I post this because of a not too reassuring comment by Anthony towards the end. They asked him to do an impression, and he started a Reagan impression, but then said "I got nothing. It's too early." The time was around 6:45 a.m. That's not a good sign since their show will be starting at 6 a.m.

if you're aready subscribing, it's kind of shitty to make you pay extra to listen via the internet ... XM seems to go a long way to be less than customer friendly ...
Flipside: Say that you're paying for two radios, one in the house and one for the car/office/etc. If you stream, you don't have to pay 6.99 - saving three bucks a month.

Some tidbits from O&A's interview in FMQB, a Radio Trade Publication, also on Foundry...
XM wants them to be the signature show of the entire network.
Chose XM over Sirius because of the technology and they fact they "got it".
"It's basically our own radio station, we can do whatever we want."
O&A understand that "balloon knot" is funny and "asshole" is not, so it's not like they'll open a mic on 10/4 and be "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK".
O&A have the flexibility to do mornings, but they can also do afternoons, Opie can do a music show if he wants (he mentioned his rock radio roots), possible live comedy shows, etc.
Anthony wants to crack a mic on 202 on 10/2 at 12:01 am. (as soon as the Non-comp runs out)
They love the flexibility of having their own channel, and this could set the model for future Satellite-only broadcasters.
"For the first time, Howard can't say we're ripping him off."
"We're not gonna take a day off for six months - we've had enough vacation."

Got this from Norton tonight:
Finally, Opie & Anthony will be doing a live appearance in Boston. It's happening on Friday, September 24th at The Big Easy Bar. I will definitely be there with them. The address is 1 Boylston Place, Boston, MA 02116 - (617) 351.7000. We will start signing and meeting around 5, then hang to watch the Yankess cock slap the awful Sox. Ant's brother Joe and his U2 cover band will play after, should be a great night filled with alcoholism, tits and hopefully logs on the chest to straighten everyone out. I am really looking forward to this one. cut and past this address for directions http://www.bigeasyboston.com/directions.html

I had just realized the other day that it is in fact their own channel.
I have a feeling the first show will go WAAAY over 4 hours! They've got so much to get off their chest at this point!
It's also pretty cool that they can pretty much come on whenever.
You're listening to a replay, and all of the sudden....
"Hey, it's Ant. I'm bored and was near by. Thought I'd say hi."
He's done it before, goin' on R&F and Eddie Trunk's shows because he was bored.
Speakin' of Eddie, he has Sat, Night Rocks on XM. Gotta feelin' that there will be some cross-over shows goin' on!
Also, ordered my XM "Boombox" yesterday and should have it in my hands by Wed.!
I too have been looking all over for it, and they've been sold out everywhere!
Went to xmstore.com and finally got one. Good prices too!

What's weird is XM is the only advertiser on Howard's site. You would figure Sirius would take advantage.
