I'm taking a shot here, not having confirmation. My last prediction sucked. But, Gammons said 5 minutes ago on ESPN radio, Benson to the mets for Wiggy, Peterson and a prospect from the White Sox.

The White Sox threw in the guy so the Twins wouldn't get Benson.

Relax folks this is gammons here. the same guy who reported that beltran will be a yankee in a week. And the next day he got dealt to Houston. The same guy who still thinks the Arod to Boston deal is 70% done. And will eventualy happen. And the same guy who said Randy will be a Yankee in 98 by the end of the night............ correct me if im wrong but i do not think that happend either........ so if u go by my formula RJ is a Yankee and Benson is a Twin by 4pm sat.

i officially give up i see duquette i will murder him, holy fucking shit does this make any kind of sense? there is only one person in all of baseball that im willing to part with kazmir for and thats zito, and i was hoping against hope that it couldve happened in this comin offseason. great job so even if by some miracle the mets get to the playoffs i can look forward to a first round sweep and exit. meanwhile if we threw yankee money at beltran and gotten zito for our prospects i could say in my heart that the mets are world series contenders. instead i sit here and say fuck the world. i need a blunt.

Do we really need two bottom of the rotation guys??? Is anyone foolish enough to believe that these guys will take us anywhere. This isn't a long term move. Benson is a FA. We could've just signed him after the season.

Even if Kazmir's arm falls off, this trade makes no sense. The fact is, it wasn't more than a few months ago that "kazmir"was untouchable. We could've had a mega star for him. Instead we trade him for Zambrano. He WOULD HAVE BEEN a future #1 starter!! kaz is supposed to the best left handed pitcher in the minors.





















Oh I think the fans are going to love having zambrano as their ace for the years to come..... :blush:

Do you like, snort rocks before you post? What in the hell would make you think that Kazhmir and Peterson would have wound up like say Paul Wilson and Jason Isringhausen? And dont forget, Kazhmir and Peterson would have had something those guys didnt...Rick Peterson. As far as the trade goes, I mean I dont think Peterson will be all that great but Kazhmir...Kazhmir! And I wouldnt mind as much if they had traded Kazhmir for a really good All STar player, but Victor Zambrano?!?! The guy has a 4 and half ERA, he has 96 walks for gods sakes! He leads the league with 15 or 16 hit batters...his K to BB ratio is 1-1! The guy cant throw over the plate and we trade our top prospect for him?! For a guy whos gonna be the 5th starter on this rotation?

The one thing I will say in defense of management...We do have a great pitching staff this year. It is by far the deepest pitching rotation in the league. AND, its a definite upgrade over Seo and Ginter and Erickson etc. However, that bullpen is still terrible. If the Mets dont make the playoffs now, after getting these 2 pitchers, I guarantee you it will be because of the amount of games that was blown by their bullpen.

Matt peterson wasn't on ANYONE's mind before this year. Good riddance. Kazmir has been hurt more than he has pitched. Ever hear of Brien Taylor? He was another tiny left hander who threw darts and was can't miss. How'd that work out?


I'm not happy to see Wiggy or Kazmir go, but Wiggy ain't gonna be Jeff Kent, his trade value is as high as it will ever be right now.

We got 5 quality starters.

PS, wait to see how good Zambrano is after working w/ Rick Peterson. The guy is absolutely filthy. Noone hits him, he walks everyone. Once that stops, good night.

I thought the Mets had a plan to build from the inside. I was excited about the future rotation of Kazmir, Peterson, and Phillip Humber (3rd overall pick of this years draft). Christ, if you want Benson sign him after the year is over. The Mets were on there way to being a DOMINANT team in 2006. Wright and Reyes in the infield. Kazmir, Peterson, Humber. Huber catching. Milledge patrolling the OF. I had visions in my head of a young hungry team.

Nope. Instead of a young hungry team, Duquette has now transformed this team into a aging, starving lion who can't kill a baby zebra.


Just to fuel the fire...Kazmir was untouchable for both Soriano and Beltran.

I agree with Iamnotatool. In hindsight, it would have been nice to get Soriano or Beltran but then it would have been either Wright or Reyes that got dealt to get another starter and everyone would have been bitching about that.

Kazmir has only proven himself up through AA while Zambrano has pitched well for a lousy team for over a year now and apparently the Mets feel that they can correct his control problems.

It looks like Kazmir will be another Nolan Ryan but he could turn out to be another Bill Pulsipher, you don't know. This late in the season, if you're still in the hunt for a playoff spot in a lousy division, roll the dice and take your chances.

I hate to see Wigginton go but get Benson now while you know you have a shot at a Division title instead of waiting to sign him in the off season.
