Weezer Frontman Chronicles 'Epiphany' (http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000589310)
Cuomo goes on to describe how Rubin introduced him to the love poetry of Hafiz and Vipassana meditation in February 2003. "In accord with my understanding of these teachings, I abruptly dropped all of my business responsibilities and hard-won power, and isolated myself once again," he says. "I fasted and lost 15% of my weight. I took a vow of complete celibacy. I gave away or sold most of my possessions, my house and my car and lived in an empty apartment next to Rick Rubin's house for the rest of the year. I moved to settle outstanding lawsuits and reconcile myself with enemies. I apologized to many people. I volunteered six days a week at Project Angel Food in Hollywood, preparing meals for people with HIV."
you wonder are these actions of an altruistic source, or the early stages of a descent into madness ... one extreme of cat stevens to the deep end of brian wilson ...

He's Rivers Cuomo. This isn't madness. This is the second time he's gone into isolation. The first time he was deeply depressed, because of the poor sales of Pinkerton. Now he does this because of the poor sales of Maladroit. (Pinkerton, Blue Album and Maladroit were good cds. The Green Album was ok, but somewhat disappointing.)
He could avoid all of this if his music was marketed better than it has been. Green Album was put out there fairly well, but I didn't see much for Maladroit beyond their own website. But whatever. This guy can do whatever the heck he wants, as long as he puts good music out there.

I still have not(and will not) forgive Rolling Stone for naming Pinkerton the "worst album of 1996"
to hell with Rolling Stone

This would be why I don't read Rolling Stone.

Am I the only one who thinks Pinkerton was a great record?

That album has been played so many times in my CD player and stereo its not even funny. Great, great album.
One of the best rock albums of the 90's, easily.

If you exclude half of the late teen-mid 20's population then yes.

Pinkerton, for me, is tied with the Blue Album as their greatest. Awesome cd.

I have just gotten into Weezer over the last couple of years. One of the best and most original bands of the last 15 years. On my top 5 list, right after Alice in Chains.
For example: Kindest Regards, Your Name

Pinkerton is a great album, though compared to the Blue Album, it falls way short.
