Contract negotiations not progressing (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=fanball-chargersriverstalksn&prov=fanball&type=lgns)

God I really hope they wind up not signing this guy and get stuck with Brees again. Rivers does deserve top overall pick money for all the shit they got out of the deal like it says in the article. Serves them right if they wind up not giving him the money he wants.

BTW, what happens if he doesnt sign? Does he become a FA or can the team trade away the rights to him or something?

They own his rights for a year after the draft if they don't sign him. Think about how the Texans traded Drew Henson before this year's draft. And everyone knew these negotiations would be tough because both Manning and Rivers would want Number 1 money. Not to worry, the agents will settle the whole thing and then take their cuts.

This is the guy the Chargers wanted all along and they get him, plus a handful of draft picks, and wont even give him the money they seem to think hes worth?

He'll wind up singing but Rivers better try and speed up this process if he wants to compete for the starting job.

Everything I hear is that talks have broken down, and Rivers is back in Raleigh.

So, what QB in their right mind would ever, EVER sign with San Diego? They are now officially the worst team ever!

If this kid goes unsigned through the end of camp, the franchise should be forced to be sold. What the fuck are they doing out there? Geographically, there's probably not a better place to live in the country, they shouldn't exactly have a lot of cap restrictions with all the scary talent on that team, what's the hold-up?

And now they're fucking around with guy? SportsCenter said this morning that the Chargers have publicly stated that they offered him a bigger contract than Fitzgerald. Rivers says, "...that's not true & they know it." If he turns out to be telling the truth, the San Diego brass will look like monumental assholes.

Pull a Madden & force them to give up the franchise.

Unfortunately, he isn't. Kurt Warner was an incredible QB in the AFL and took Iowa to 2 championship appearances. Germaine rode the pine behind Shedrick Bonner with Arizona this season. There's no shame in that, because Bonner is one of the best in AFL history, but don't look for anything spectacular from Joe Germaine, because he did not prove himself this season.

Lets move them into the Ocean. Have a dispersal draft, and make sure that noone mentions the Chargers or San Diego ever again.

Problem Solved!

He Emerged as full-time Ohio State starter in 1998 and earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the year and All-big Ten Honors, Passed for more than 300 yards seven times in '98! Check out everything on this page to learn more about Joe!!

The Chargers are screwing themselves by not signing him.

And on a seperate note, the should have an AFL video game.

They have an AFL game, it's called NFL Blitz.

Actually made by the same people who created Blitz, though not as good. Also, it was made during a transition period for the league. So, a number of teams featured in the game have either moved or folded since. Though I must admit, it's hard to pass up a game where you can have a flea-flicker pass to the QB.

Just got the info. Of the 17 teams featured in the game, only 8 are in the same city with the same name. (This doesn't include Nashville, which will be returning in 2005 after a 4-year hiatus.) 5 have folded while 4 have relocated. Of the 4 relocations, 2 have kept the same nickname. Since the game was made, 8 teams have been added by expansion. So IMO, they are past due for a new game.

That's cool. But I wouldn't want the game to be like Blitz, as fun as it is. I would want it to be like a Madden. Just with the AFL.

Like Madden? As in more like the NFL? I think a lot of people say that about Arena. I was an Albany Firebirds fan, but they've moved. One of the guys who played for them (and was coach at my college for a season) signed with the new Albany team to retire. I think it's cool to return to your original team to retire, but he couldn't even do that. He had to return to the original city.

Who here is seeing a trend. They pass up on Mike Vick to get Brees and some extra draft picks.

They pass up Eli to get Rivers and some extra draft picks.

Does anybody know any QBs that are going to be coming into the league in 3 or 4 years?

An Rivers is stupid to sign a 6 year deal with this club. He needs to get like a 3 year deal and then haul ass outta San Diego.
