[color=purple]Check this site out, and do so when you really have some time to enjoy it. The American Museum of the Moving Image has collected every telivised Presential ad since 1952.
The difference between then and today is nothing short of amazing. It sorta serves as a time line for the decline of western civilization (or at least civility). As near as I can tell, Nixon was the 1st one to ever go negative. Which kinda makes sense, I guess.
Good Stuff/batch material for MoJo (http://livingroomcandidate.movingimage.us/index.php)

See LBJ's 1964 "Daisy Commercial".
Goldwater would have brought about a nuclear holocaust!

I LOVE how they made Goldwater into a raving lunatic. Every Johnson commercial said "Vote for me, I'm the SANE one!"

I think Gore and Kerry might have had the same chip installed into them.

Gary,
If ya didnt hear, R+F did the whole 10-11pm hour playing ads from the site. They loved it. Of course, I got credit when all I did was send the thread to Ron, but i'll let him know who Really found the site. It was a cool segment. Creepy hearing those old ads.
[Edit: I tried to look for this thread for an hour, thanx to the Mods for finding it; now looking at the thread title, I went past it ten times, and didnt remember. Ack.]

[color=purple]No, Mike, I didn't get to hear it. But no worries. Just glad you thought to send it to them, and glad they dug it/got an hour out of it.

glad they dug it/got an hour out of it.
Keeping in mind, of course, that they got two hours out of WB's back moles.

To put it in rasslin' terms, Ron and Fez could put over a dustmop. Not that the pol ad was a bad topic, though. It was funny as hell.

If you go to the site linked up top; you can see some of the stuff, and if you thought what you Heard was weird...
It reminds me that, while I might get a "Could it Possibly get Any Worse?" attitude about things today, in terms of terrorism and foreign threats, at one time the issue was a Matthew Broderick 'War Games' movie scenario where several major US cities are vaporized. The Cuban Missle Crisis, some would say, got pretty fucking close to one side going Game On.
Seems weird the USSR, as it was then, seems a distant shadow of a memory.
And go to some of the 1968 Ads, which show photos, from the field, of dead american soldiers. Wow how the climate has changed. I shudder to think of a campaign ad today with dead american bodies in Iraq, in color, on the TV, as part of an Ad. I dont even know what the official press access Is to said photos of this war. Anyone?
Shit that all sounds political; I dont mean any side, I guess of course if a party were to run such an ad it would be Kerry's, but I'm not singling them out; those ads showed both sides have been basically singing the Same Song all along.
Slam the other guy while throwing in your quick Plug. Variations on a Theme.
Great Site; I hope they play some more. There a Wallace one where he basically assures voters, 'Dont Worry, I'll keep the schools Segregated'
[Oh, and if you think racial tensions are bad Now? Watch some of the riot footgae from the 68 ads, and maybe from 64, cant remember. Yow!]
