The album was a performance piece, released last year.
It's... not good. A lot of old Neil Young fans saw the performances and were very upset by the quality.

i cannot begin to describe how bad greendale is ...
haven't seen the movie, but suffered in great agony and horror watching the worst concert ever ...
i love neil young, love him even more with crazy horse ... now after enduring the hell that was greendale, not so much ...
going into the concert, i knew that the new record was a 'concept album' ... i expected, at worst 1/3 to 1/2 of the setlist to feature the new songs with fan favourites sprinkled in ...
lucinda williams opened, and she played an amazing set ...
i can't really capture the sheer horror of what followed, but i'll try ...
he played the entire album (with extended mindless jams) in succession ... on stage there were small sets, props and 'actors' acting out the songs -- a real dinner thatre vibe ... after over 90 minutes of some of the worst sites and sounds, they played a four song encore -- too little, too late
the 'greendale' songs were long, insipid, amateurish and just fucking awful -- something about a ranch, a grandpa, the devil, jail and corporate radio .
i'm all for artistic expression, but try show some regard for your dedicated fan base ... this was at jones beach as part of the concert series, not at some theatre -- people were coming to this tour to hear his staples ...
worst piece of shit ever ...
