The other day I had a barrage (sp?) of emails saying I was sending out and receiving infected emails. So I installed a firewall that is offered by my ISP (EZ Armor by Computer Associates) Since then (Tuesday) I haved been "pinged" 645 times. I ran the Anti-Virus that came with it and it caught two (that AVG didn't catch) My question is: Is there any way to stop the pinging? I'm guessing that since I was once known as an open computer they will keep trying.

So are you asking if you can somehow stop the computer(s) on the other end from pinging your firewall?

I don't think that's possible from your end. You can just block 'em, but short of showing up and taking a bat to their CPU, I don't think you can make them stop doing it.

Yes. That is all. By the way Mojo, would you rather wood or aluminum?

You may keep me in a locked chest in your basement's crawlspace, but I draw the line at splinters.

I mean, I have SOME dignity.

The only thing better than a software firewall is a physical one.

Firewalls rule. You can not stop the pinging (or worse things people out there will do if they know you have open ports)

A physical firewall is better and saves your computer's cpu(s) from working on that stuff.

Instead of having the ports closed, you need to make sure they are stealthed. This mean invisible to the outside world. goto GRC.com and run Shields up. It will let you know what ports are open.

A real physical firewall is good at protecting the pilot/driver when the engine explodes.

A firewall saved my good friend Sam "Ace" Rothsteins life. He was the head of a new casino out in Vegas. Bankrolled by the mafia. One of the guys did not like what was going on, so they put a bomb in the engine of his cadillac. Luckily, the caddy had a metal firewall and he survived. True story,

Check your firewall settings. Should an IMC ping block (similar). It does not stop pinging but it does not the system to respond to active pings. The system will receive a ping response similar to no active system available. Once whom ever is pinging sees this it may assume no computer there and many time just move on.

Helps alot.
