Back in 2000, I had become supervisor (and technical director) in the television company I worked at. Since our company actually contracted services, I actually had my company's boss to deal with and the boss for the company with which we contracted. I reported to a vice president for the contractee, and didn't have much problem dealing with him. But my company's management (namely the pres and vice pres) were constant pains in the ass.
When we informed them of impending equipment failure, they would claim that they were gonna take care of it, and did nothing. When the equipment finally failed (usually live and on-the-air), the contractee would be all over us (the crew) while our company's bosses claimed they were not told about the impending failure.
When I had finally had enough, I quit by fax. I did give 2 weeks notice, and was pretty much short and succinct in what I said. I cc'd the VP of the company we were contracted to, and he called me right away asking questions about why I was leaving and who would replace me, etc. The actual company I worked for took 2 days before they called me, and said "I guess we should find someone to take your place?"
My answer was "You think?!" I trained my replacement for the next few days, and although I was pretty sure he wouldn't last long (he didn't), I started my new job the day after my 2 weeks notice was up.
I still keep in contact with some of the guys I used to work with. They tell me about how the company lost the contract, and the majority of them got hired in-house and got better benefits and stuff. This was like a year or more after I left, and I just couldn't take it anymore.
Now I have a different kind of stress... :p
