I could`nt find a past thread about this, but has any board members ever served in the Military? Checking out my new sigpic, which made me look back and think of how much I miss it. I served 8 yrs. in the Submarine Fleet. 2 1/2 yrs on board the USS Ohio, which is my sigpic.

Fucking Squid!! The only real sailor is a Coastie!!! I told you that before!! I served as an ASM1 (that's a first class Air Survivalman, for all you landlubbers) on board the USCGC Dallas for 2 1/2 years. 15 months off the coast of Viet Nam. I also worked in San Diego, Cape May as a boot instructor and went to training up at Coronado Beach to learn how to scuba dive!!! 4 years all together!!! Probably the best 4 years of my life!!

I give you all the credit in the world lumberdude, i think that is awesome that you served in a submarine for that long. I cant imagine doing something like that, but that is why we have special people like you and your fellow soldiers or shall i say sailors? Its the thought that counts.

I didnt mean to single njlumberdude out, I as a patriotic american appreciate everything that all of the military men and women do for us.

Dude,

were you ever stationed at San Diego? I was stationed at the USCG Air staion just to the south of the sub base. We used to fly over it all the time...and get warnings from the naval air controller that it we were in restricted air space....we did it on purpose just to show them that we could!!!!!

If I can. If not I'm a Middle East Studies major, so I'm a shoo-in for Intelligence.

I'm surprised no one has made a "Seaman" joke yet.

There's hope for this board.

Well, TJ, theyve played it a few times, but way back in the day, and it was once a rarely recurring joke, but anyway, theyd usually say it when it was fleet week...

Something along the lines of [they did it on an AFRO show once]:

Ron: Hey Fez you see all the ships, it's fleet week, its like every boat in the world is out there!...

Fez: Yeah Ronny thats so Cool! You know, I can never remember what they call all those Navy and Coast Guard guys from everywhere...

Ron: Seamen?

Fez: No thanks Ronnie I have some Water right here, but Getting Back, I always forget what they call those guys...

The Navy pisses me off. In boot camp they told us "If they have shiny things on their collar, that's an officer and you salute him." Well, now I get to this Naval base and see all sorts of shiny stuff, so I'm saluting left and right. It turns out that they're those Chiefs, and I look like a complete dick saluting enlisted.

Damn, today in the Navy barracks on base:

1) two male sailors were caught having sex.
2)Somebody somehow took a crap in their smoke pit (place outside the barracks where everyone hangs out and smokes cigarettes.
