This is the stuff that you thought was ABSOLUTELY amazing and wanted really bad, until you either ordered it and were extremely disappointed or grew up and realized it was all a scam. Who remembers this shit? I don't think they exist anymore cuz kids are too smart to get ripped off by this shit anymore. Here's some that i remember:

* X-Ray glasses
* fake dog shit
* whoopie cushions
* rattlesnake "eggs"
* those "peanut" cans that you open and the spring "snake" pops out at you
* sea monkeys
* fake ice cube with the fly inside it
* UFO (aka - a really big balloon)
* fake knife (with the spring loaded blade that goes into the handle)
* "switch-blade" comb
* chattering teeth

Any others... Man, what a fuckin' huge scam. These companies got away with it for so long, but they've met their match... the internet.

even though they always had the same whacky products advertised in the back of them comics I always had to look at them... i was always curious about whether they really worked, i guess it was the same for most kids

and I always read the "charles atlas" strip as well

I remember that shit! When I was a kid, I sent away for the Sea Monkeys (Which worked for me) and the X-Ray glasses . I remember the picture on the back of the comic book which showed some guy with a pair of these on looking through some woman`s clothing. That`s why I bought `em.

I bought the Revolutionary War soldiers, in bright red and blue. I think my niece and nephew have them somewhere.

When I was a kid growing up in Lynbrook, I was all psyched that Hobby House, the place with all the cool crap (X-ray specs, mini spy-cameras etc), was located in my town right next to Greis Park. I was disappointed when I went there to see the glory of all this wonderful stuff and found out that it was only a regular office with nothing interesting about it at all.

I was all psyched that Hobby House,

The Hobby Store, oh what a beautiful wonderful place for a kid back in the day before PS2 and AOL.

Rows upon rows of Models, Planes, Ships, the Whole Train thing, all the paints and glues and Estes Model Rockets and Engines and Gilbert or whoever Chemistry sets and all the shit.

Good times.

What the hell was that place on Rt. 22 in NJ, Green Brook I think, Huge Hobby store. There are some still around, but theyre being swallowed up I guess by the Megastores.

We have HobbyMasters here in Red Bank, thats pretty cool.

Hercules Wrist Bands looked like the coolest things ever, but spending $5 on them seemed like emptying a bank account back then.

Dang, I remember walking by Charles Atlas's grave in a masoleam that one of my aunt's is buried in. It's freaky when you walk past a grave that someone famous is buried in.
