adware/antivirus programs

Yesterday i clicked on a link that someone had in their away message, 5 mins later the same away message that they had up started popping up on my aim about every 5 or 10 mins. I updated my virus definitions andimmediately did a virus scan with norton antivirus and unfortunately it didnt catch anything. I have been constantly been running spyhunter scans and adaware scans in addition to pest patrol scans and they seem to have been catching a lot of cookies and spyware programs that are on my machine. Does anyone have any other ideas as far as antivirus programs to use in addition to spyware and adaware progrms, I have heard mixed reviews on mcafee v8, has anyone else had any experience with it?

What is the away message?

Post the text here. Also post the URL of where it links to, but don't make that URL into a link, just post it with some spaces in it or something so someone won't accidently click on it.

As for Mcafee, I use it and it works fine, but I don't think it will catch what you are talking about. You need to do other things depending on what AIM hijack you have.

Try AVG Antivirus. It's Free.... (http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/1/lng/us/tpl/v5)

Also remove WildTangent which installs with AIM. It's a form of spyware that streams, I'm not sure if it's the cause of your problem, but I removed WildTangent the moment I installed AIM. Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html) and Ad_Aware (http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button) can both remove WildTangent along with whatever other spyware may be on your system. I'm sure there's other programs that remove spyware, but these two I trust, and they're free.
