Being it's that time of year i was wondering if anyone has been out fishing. If so, what's been running and where have you been fishing?

The past two years i've taken my daughters out on the Party boats out of Belmar. One time for fluke and the other time for blues. Had a bit of luck each trip, it always seems you'll catch something off of the party boats.

Most of the fish work Ive done involves making lab tanks, and introducing different heavy metals and some nasty compounds into the system to see the rates of absorbtion. Toxicology studies mostly; I poisoned fish for a good year to get the data for the Prof.

I've caught more fish seining then with rod and reel. You get a good technique and a pivot person I can get you 100 fish in five minutes. Not legally, but we do it for the Icthy classes at Monmouth U, where I stop in and help the above Prof with his classes.

A nice net filled with Sandy Hook Fishes, even the pufferfish, and blue claws, that are Pissed Off as Fuck, and we find some weird shit we send to to get ID-ed. Test the Salinity, pH, Dissolved O2, Phophates, Nitrates, Hg, and Pb. Good times.

I havent fished in a few years, but I use to love going fishing for snapper. Some people told me they are baby blue fish, but Im not so sure, because I heard that some say that they are a different species. They are small, but its cool to catch them with just a popper or lure. When they are biting (usually near the end of the summer) you can catch them so fast that you can get like 20 of them in a half hour.

I usually fish at a Lake in Ringwood, NJ during the summer. Not too many fish though...a few sunnies, some perch. Has some nice bass and the occassional catfish (although I haven't seen catfish in years). For a few years we had a goldfish living in the lake. This thing was HUGE. Must've been at least 30-40 lbs, and maybe 2-4 feet long. It's head was maybe 9 or 10 inches wide. Tried to catch it, but the bastard didn't seem to like worms, or ANY food for that matter. We haven't seen that either, and we think it's dead or something.

have to say Party boats are cool but i wouldn't want to go out on a tuna trip, unless it was on land 'tee-hee'

actually i got a 'slight' fear of the ocean(since i saw Poseidon Adventure) and i hear you have to go out about 50 miles for tuna, that's too far for me plus i hear it's real expensive

fishing off piers seem to suck, i've never caught anything worth mentioning except a dead spider crab and a seahorse with a crabcage...

in 2 weeks i go on my yearly vacation where most of what i do is fish for the 2 weeks. going for bass, but a pike is always nice. we go to a cabin on a lake about 20 minutes from Lake George. as long as i'm not reeling in any sunnies i enjoy my day. i'd rather catch nothing than catch a sunny.

haven't been fishing in ages.

Haven't been crabbing in a while, either. That's more my thing. Of course, I am from Maryland. I've never been on a particularly successful crabbing trip, but that's beside the point. You would usually spend the day hanging out, drinking, etc... and you could pick up a bushel on the way home and it was just as good.

Spring term is almost over, and I'm really hating my job. My lease on my apartment is amost run out. The tags on my car expire next week. If I'm ever going to do it, this just seems like a good time to kill myself..</center>

We used to crab the hudson river growing up, caught a bunch but never ate them... I was never one to use droplines, i felt it was too risky. It's great when you pull the cage and feel the vibration of the crab crawling around looking for an opening.
But it's not worth it to me to eat the crabs. I like the taste better than lobster or shrimp but you can rarely get a nice chunk and just munching on little bits of meat is just frustrating. Unless you buy some alaskan king crab leg...

Sweet! The year The Perfect Storm came out there were some excellent Docus on how dangerous the fishing could be on the Atlantic, but they also had a segment, or whle show on those Alaskan Crabbers. It was surreal the working conditions, not to mention, before you even start any work, you're going to out at sea for months at a time. Pitching through 30 degree rolls for a week striaght in that weather, of course its loud as hell because the engines are on 24/7, anyway; Psychologically this is Bug Out Time for many.

Sadly the Movie The Perfect Storm is a shadow of the book in terms of the life of guys on these vessels. Whole lotta ways to get hurt or killed on the Ocean.

Went fishing for blues with my daughter Kristin today... I woke Michele at 5:30, she got up but was too tired to go. We went out of Belmar on the Golden Eagle party boat. Had a great time, caught 8 blues and lost about 6(had to buy 6 new hooks)
We wound up catching 4 each.

Anybody else been fishing? A guy on the boat said there will be big blues the first two weeks of Nov???

my question is ..why does one need a permit to go fishing anyway?
Sometimes the State will grow fish (like trout) at a hatchery and then put them into some of the streams and lakes when they get big enough so that people can have fun catching them. The fee from the license helps to pay for this service.
