I totally can't believe they are casting Jack Black in what they are calling a "zany comedy version a la the Mask"??????
You know I wasn't really a fan of Hal Jordan. I came to read Green Lantern when Kyle was GL. I actually liked Kyle. But even, if was Kyle or Hal or even Alan Stewart I would have looked forward to this movie if it was cast in space fighting Sinestro or something like that.
This is Warner Brothers's doing though. From what the article says DC isn't happy with this interetation but there is nothing they can do. Maybe this may change after Catwoman hits, and Warner Brothers freaks out that noone wants to see it.

I love Tenacious D but there is just a bit too much Jack Black out there now and the movies he's in aren't good anymore.
King Kong sounds like it's gonna stink with him. Jack's too goofy for a serious KK movie and King Kong won't work at a wacky comedy.

This news is disheartening. These Spiderman movies have been my obsession for years now and they are going to ruin it with Jack Black??? I've hated him since the beginning of time. He is my kryptonite. If there was one celebrity I wish death on it is this unfunny, relentless, waste of my fucking time, piece of shit jerkoff. Oh and anyone described as zany is a fucking tool.
EDIT...phew..I got this thread confused with the spiderman thread. Thank the Lord.

Unfreaking believable!!!! To make the movie in the vain of the Mask movie is just as stupid as Catwoman that has no relation to the DC universe.
Just because you have Black in your name doesn't even mean he can play John Stewart. This movie is going to blow. :(

They might as well have made him black, because it still adds up to the same thing: the total rape of the character and everything that makes the comic work.
This is probably THE most retarded idea they could have done with the property. Then again, this IS Warner Bros.

Warner Apparently cares zilch about these properites. Look at this, "Catowman," how the Batman and Superman properties went...they have zero creative care or investment.

Full disclosure - I don't care, I'm not a comic book guy, and I probably won't see this movie. That said, does anyone really care that much about Green Lantern that they're concerned as to whether or not they are being true to the comics? He always struck me as a lame 3rd tier character.

O.K. New conspiracy theory. Ben Stiller has naked pictures of every studio executive in Hollywood with a donkey and has shared them with Jack Black and Owen Wilson. This is why they are allowed to make any movie they want no matter how stupid or unfunny the premise. Will Chris Rock play Black Lightning? I think they may have given him a donkey picture or 2 then revoked it after Pooty Tang. If Christine Taylor plays Wonder Woman, the jig is up.(P.S.- "The jig is up" is the most underated line in History of the World Part I)
For example: Kindest Regards, Your Name

You mean Alan Scott, the Golden Age, and John Stewart the black Green Lantern.
Damn geeked it up again. The next time I do that can someone kick me in the Jimmy?

Using his ring, Green Lantern can shape and produce green energy of fantastic power that can be used to create solid objects, shoot energy bolts, and give Green Lantern the power of flight (including intergalactic travel).
whoa, i'm impressed!
reminds me of old time SNL when they're all playing super heroes and G Morris is AntMan... AntMan describes his super powers and Akroyd who is playing the Flash says something sarcastic like:
whoa, every molecule is shaking now...

There are different levels of disappointment & failure. Take the Catwoman movie, for example....arguably, it's a good 10 years too late for this film anyway (because if there was a time to capitalize on the popularity of the character, it should have been done around...say, 1994....just a couple years after "Batman Returns")....and just in the way they've managed to fuck up the origin and theme, this movie looks awful. But at least they've tried to make a serious film - it's just one that sucks, due to their ineptitude.
But here's a comic book character that they could actually make a GOOD movie out of, given the nature of the character and the characters powers, etc......and they choose to make it a lame-ass comedy starring Jack Black.
This would be different if they did this with a different character - say, Plastic Man, where the character is primarily there for comedy anyway. But this they could have done something with, and they just went the absolute WORST possible way with it. Worse than I could have even imagined they would go.

OK, completely fake but very well done.
I think the live action flick is still on hold, but at least the animated feature Green Lantern: First Flight is coming out in June or July. DC's animated stuff has been pretty good.

And as much as I think somebody like Nathan Fillion or David Boreanaz would make a pretty solid Hal Jordan, they are going to pick a twenty-something actor to fill the role. That way they can get the young chick audience and hopefully have someone that can play in a few sequels without getting too old.
Also, Seann William Scott could probably be a good Guy Gardner (although he is probably also a little old). He can do an abrasive, yet somehow likable, character pretty well.

Yes, yes they did.
Think of it as something similar to "fan fiction."
I know, that doesn't make it better...
