how about a cassette adapter for the car?
and a adapter that goes from the earphone jack in the nomad to the L-R inputs on the stereo?

Go to the Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com) website or call them on the phone. Tell them that you want to hook your mp3 player up to your car and you need to find out what parts you need to buy. They will put together a cart for you that contains a FM Modulator, which besides for an AUX port on the head unit, is the best way to hook up an external device.
The way it works is by going through the antenna port on the back of the head unit. It overrides a station of your choice, usually something like 87.9, when you turn it on and the single comes through directly. It's much better then an FM Transmitter which are all crap, no matter what the brand.
Order of sound quality, from low to high:
FM Transmitter, Tape adapter, FM Modulator, AUX port.
The modualtor will take a small bit of effort to hook up but it is well worth it. Crutchfield will put together all the parts you need and send you instructions with pictures on how to do it all.
