You forgot to mention the pingpong ball they play over a caller when he/she goes on a rant. Or the bowling sound effect. Yeah maybe a lot of radio hosts do that but coming from somone who only ever listened to talk radio on WNEW, it sounds kinda familiar.
Touche. The ping-pong is over used. However, Craig does have a bunch of drops at his disposal, including the old-school Super Mario Brothers on the NES theme. Unfortunately, it's rarely used. He always seems to rely on the pingpong, bowling, and snoring drops.
I love Dennis and Judy. Now that's a pair who are in no way in comparison to O and A. I wish they had the 2-7 slot.
D&J have had the mid-day slot for 7 years. They've done well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
And I'll take the traffic every 15 minutes. It can be helpful when you're driving home to Belmar from Jersey City everyday like myself. What I could really do without is the weather ever 15. That is completely useless.
Blame the consultants and the almighty dollar. Weather being done every 15 minutes is extra cash, because all the weather breaks are sold.
Consultants say people listen to the radio for three things... time, weather, traffic. That's the big three. It's antiquated, and I'm not sure how true it is nowadays. I get my time and weather from the internet, but I do get my traffic from the radio.

Big Joe is fairly unlistenable because of the bad jokes and the same old crappy music
You can't blame Big Joe for the music selection - that's mainly a PD call. I too am annoyed that I hear Barry White's "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love" at least 2-3 times in a 48 period.
However, Joe is also considered one of the station's top personalities. The listerners love him. The corny jokes are part of the schtick, and don't forget... the demos that he (and the music) appeals to are soccer moms, not males under 35. That's why it works.
STOP SAYING NEW JERSEY ONE O ONE POINT FIVE EVERY FIFTEEN SECONDS!
Brand identification and the phone number are two things that need to be repeated ad nauseum for the listener over and over and over again. Has to be done. Hell, even Joe Beningo gives out the WFAN number at 5:29 before he throws it over to Charles McCord.
The main reason why this is done so listeners can identify the station in arbitron ratings and continue word of mouth.
You don't notice it from other stations because it's just the call letters or the numbers - 955 PLJ, Z-100, Q104. You just notice NJ 101.5 more because it's a freakin' mouthful to say.
