Tino Martinez got nothing but applause at Yankee Stadium during the Tampa Bay series... even in the 9th inning when he hit a base hit that could've won the game for TB. Soriano has also received warm ovations from the fans at the Stadium, so don't talk about Yankee fans not appreciating their old players. Clemens left on bad terms, plus Yankee fans KNOW he is and always will be a Red Sock. Pettitte left on his own terms because he basically said he would rather be in Texas than NY, however, I'm sure if he pitched at Yankee Stadium, he would get a good hand from the crowd.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I think most Yankee fans, yourself possibly included, are smart fans, and they do welcome back those that perform. I thought the thing w/ Tino was awesome, absolutely awesome.

I just think it's hypocritical to blast Clemens and/or Petitte one bit on this. They lowballed Petitte. It wasn't just his choice. They made it easy for him to leave, because they didn't appreciate him. Sure, with the arm trouble now, it looks like a great move, but doesn't show much for George's loyalty.

Bernie had to get a last second contract after Boston woo'd him at the final hour, yet George will waaaay over pay and outbid only himself for a guy like Giambi. George is notorious for being in love with great players on other teams, and underapreciating the guys coming up through their system or guys that had been around for a while. Tino, Soriano, etc.

George low-balled Petitte for whatever reason, which he has every right to do.
I agree with most of what you've said in this thread (with the exception of your blind hatred for all things Yankee) but the Yankees offer was for more money than the Astros offer. Pettitte took less money to go home (and possibly save his marriage, which you did also state). George didn't low-ball Pettitte, but apparently he hurt his wittle feewings by not fellating him in between dinners with Sheff & Brown.

My only joy in seeing Andy leave & not have a good year is that while he had proven himself to be a stand-up guy for taking less money to go home, he was also proven to be a phony...unless, of course, his personal relationship with God that we had to hear so much about didn't have any marital fidelity clauses in it.

And the A-Rod trade wasn't even a glimmer in George eye while this was going on.

As far as Clemens goes, I loved seeing him get rocked because he always was & will be (and that includes his time in pinstripes) a head-hunting scumbag. I've always hated him, put up with him as a Yank but couldn't bring myself to root for him, and always will hate him.

All ball busting aside though, realisticly, it does look like the Yanks might clean up considering how they are just barreling through whatever seems to come their way.

Although against those three aforementioned teams they have records of:

Angels: 2 - 4
Red Sox: 4 - 6
Rangers: 3 - 3

Those records don't really mean shit cause its not like the old days where you could really gauge how a team does against another team cause East would play a West team a whole lot more and throughout the season. Damn interleauge has to go and foul thing up
