View Full Version : 2004 Home RUn Derby

Philadelphia's Jim Thome, Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. and the Chicago Cubs' Sammy Sosa will represent the National League in next week's All-Star Home Run Derby.
The New York Yankees' Jason Giambi, Boston's David Ortiz and Baltimore's Rafael Palmeiro will be among the American League players to participate in the competition next Monday night in Houston.
One additional player from each league will be picked, the commissioner's office said Wednesday.
I have a feeling Ortiz may take it this year. He has been hot as of late.

As a Yanks fan, I don't get to see a lot of games in Houston. Is it true that Houston is a righty-friendly ballpark?
If that is the case, I would have to go with Sosa as the only righty in this field of thumpers, so far. If it's not a handicap to be a lefty swinger in this park, I'll put my money on Jim Thome, just because he's the man.

You bet it is....it's almost like a Yankee Stadium for righties....I;m surprised there's not a lot of righties wanting in on this

Thanks MarisMike, I thought I remembered hearing/reading that fact somwhere. With that in mind, how thw hell is Pujols not in on this (yet, at least)? Same with Vladdy, Soriano, Manny, Cabrera, Rolen? Oh well.
And they should bring back Big Mac for one night, if only to make up for the quick-pitch bullshit job they did with him in '98 (or was that in '99?).

if the young kid is not nervous I would bet Blalock.
My 1000 would go as follows:
700 on Sosa
300 on Blalock

Since there's no Yankees in the contest, I'm gonna root for Palmeiro. He's just a classic baseball player.
Bonds had a pretty good opening round with 8.

David Ortiz only hit 3 in the first round so Manny ran over to him and took his Red Sox hat and gave him a Yankee hat. Pretty funny.

These Red Sox guys have absolutely no class...I don't want to see Manny go over there and put a Yankee hat on David Ortiz...you fucking goofball just sit there and enjoy the show...what I saw with Ortiz and Ramirez tonight was the exact difference between the Yankees and the Red Sox....PROFESSIONALISM....they always have to be the center of attention whether it be with Manny or with Ortiz trying to pep up Tejada...and then he puts the flag on Tejada's back....sit down you fat fuck....let the guy be the center of attention....not you....it's not all about the Red Sox you two no good ugly douchebags

Yeah, way to ruin a fun event by actually having fun. It's not like everyone puts their individual team rivalries aside for the all-star game or anything.

Tejada won and set a round recond in the second round. 15 I think.
Berkman hit the best homers though.

Is this Marist Mike clown for real? What would you have them do, fight? If you want to look at it that way, about teammates and loyalty, (which as the Yankee fan that you are, is kind of a joke unto itself) then they are all American Leaguer's playing on the American league team, shouldn't they be having fun, playing around. Shit, it's a fucking game. And this isn't even a game, it's a fucking exhibition.

Exhibition or not tool you should still act like a professional in that baseball uniform.....and unlike the Red Sox clubhouse at least we have chemistry in ours as opposed to 25 guys leaving the park in 25 different cars....
