Yet ANOTHER 'puter query:
What is Viewpoint and how do I get rid of it. I've tried to delete it from my program files but when I do, it tells me "Cannot delete ViewMgr.exe. Access denied."
Exe files cannot be good.
I've run Ad-Aware and Spybot and did a Norton scan but to no avail. Can anyone help me?

Alice, I had a feeling it might be a MicroSoft product, so I googled the words 'Microsoft viewpoint' and all i found out was there's a shitload of people who are really pissed off at Bill Gates' company.

Add me to the list! It tries to access the internet at least 6 times in a row and slows my computer up.

viewmgr.exe
Viewpoint Manager for Viewpoint Media Player
It is spyware as bundled with AOL, AOL Instant Messenger, Netscape 7, etc.
Following developers: "Viewpoint Media Player integrates photo-realistic 3D, high-resolution 2D images, Macromedia Flash, audio, and other media formats into HTML pages through a single media host. Essentially a graphics operating system, VMP includes both an ActiveX control and a Netscape plug-in that permits its graphics and online services to be accessed through Web browsers across multiple platforms and over narrowband connections, all while requiring no special server-side software.
This technology can be used for business applications ranging from advertising and e-commerce to online customer service and training."
Viewpoint Media Player collects information about the user.
From the vendor's privacy policy: To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint.
Detected as spyware with some detection programs.
Unused files:
AxMetaStream.dll, ComponentMgr.dll, MetaStreamID.ini, MtsAxInstaller.exe, npViewpoint.dll, npViewpoint.xpt, JpegReader.dll, Mts3Reader.dll, SceneComponent.dll, SreeDMMX.dll, SWFView.dll, WaveletReader.dll
Please, remove this spyware with RegRun Startuip Optimizer.
try a combination of ad-aware and spybot s&d, and as a last result run hijackthis ...

I've recently had a spate of spyware trouble, including Viewpoint Manager. I got it most likely through a "drive-by" install- in other words, you don't have to visit any particular site to get it.
It looks like I finally got rid of it, though, using ad-aware. There are advanced options to ad-aware that will let you run a more comprehensive scan- the quick scan won't get it all.
Also, be sure your reference file is up to date
Finally, go to the Lavasoft support pages, where a tech for ad-aware can take you step by step how to get rid of it.
You probably have more than Viewpoint Manager - you could have ISTBAR, DYFUCA and BINTERNET and TWAINTEC. The most current reference file for ad-aware with a complete scan seems to take care of it.
You can also download BHO Demon -which detects all Browser Helper Objects currently running and you can revoke their access.
Good Luck

On a previous post I have added links to some great tools we use at my job.
Check for my reply (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/69/Topic/39005/page/_Puter_problems_b_c_of_Kazaa.htm)
Using hijack is good but it is best for a tech person because you can accidentally delete needed files and registry entries. If so then you'r in worse trouble.
We are currently testing a new paid for spyware killer. So far it is realy worth the $30. I will post results and links when we finish.
Any questions please feel free to email me for help.
