View Full Version : Madonna forgets lyrics to 'Imagine'

There was only one difference between the New York and L.A. shows I saw - in the land of fair-haired hotties, Madonna made like a blonde and forgot the words to John Lennon's "Imagine." Oh, the musical sacrilege! What made it especially amusing was that she mentioned before she started the song that the lyrics are wonderful, important, timely - blah blah blah - so much so that she wished she had written it - and then, mid-song, she drew a blank! To be fair, she had been ill, and had canceled the previous show. But let me tell you, the face value on my ticket was $300, and if I'd had actually paid for that ticket (rather than shamelessly accepting a complimentary one), I would have wanted every darn word of every song. (I did pay in New York, where my ticket price was a "cheap" $105.)
Wow, that's almost as embarrassing as going to a Madonna concert!

Oh well. Mistakes happen. I saw her twice last week, and she sang Imagine perfectly. When she started to sing Material Girl, she asked us all to sing along, because, she said, she didn't remember all of the words. The shows were pretty awesome. And I spent a total of $130 for tickets to both shows.

McCartney used a TelePrompt for all of the Beatles songs on his last few tours; and Springsteen uses one also.
Springsteen forgot the words, the opening line even, to 'Born to Run' when he did an acoustic version of it at the first show of the Tunnel of Love tour. ''been so long since I sang it I forgot the damn words" to the crowd.
They asked Paul why he needs it for songs like let it be and he said simply; you folks may have been listening to the stuff for 30 years, but I havent.
I've been to so many shows; this happens all the time with everyone; youre onstage, theres quite a few things running through your mind, and lyrics is only one.

Michael Stipe uses lyric sheets in concert, which just goes to show that the audience aren't the only ones who couldn't understand what he was singing in the first place.

Why the hell is she singing John Lennon's "Imagine?"
She's got tons of her own songs. I thought her tour a couple years ago was her last!
