Little Tony DeFranco

Clocking in....Ben Stiller movie alert..."Dodgeball: An Underdog's Story" is packaged up as a fluffy light old fashioned spitball comedy for the summer. Small production values to good use, this is a standard "Stripes", "Nerds", "Meatballs" funnybone flick. Rawson Marshall Thurber (TV commercial guy) wrote and directed a fun movie that is pretty energetic and full of comic talent. Peter LaFleur (Vince Vaughn in a laid back Bill Murray role) owns a gym called Regular Joes, where the patrons (all 4 of them) don't pay and the staff is happy but poor. Across the street is "Globo Gym" run by an asswipe fitness freak name White Goodman (Ben Stiller doing a Tony Little-like tool) who wants to tear down RegJoes to put in a parking garage. A tax lean for 50 grand is put on Peter and he has a month to raise the money, a quick money fix would be to enter a dodgeball tournament in Vegas, Globo is out to stop Peter buy entering with a troop of ringers.
You can guess who wins but the fun is getting there, with a good cast of losers getting hit in the face and nuts with a rubber ball made me giddy like a tard with a puppy. Stephen Root (Office Space's Milton) has the loser geek down to a science, Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers) is the virgin hero, and the black guy Chris Williams ("Krazy Eyes Killa" from Larry David's show). Ben Stern's wife Christine Taylor is on hand as a tax attorney that helps Pete (she has a softball rocketball pitch). Stiller is funny when he is jerking off into a piece of pizza and pumping up his inflatable jockstrap, and also a few cameos from has been stars. But it's a warmed over version of David Zuker's "Baseketball" with a PG13 teen safe attitude. Better than average laughs and who can resist watching Rip Torn throw wrenches at a punk kids head anyway. "Happy Gilmore" has a brother named "Dodgeball".

This movie made $30 million and only cost $20 million to make ($30 to market) while "The Terminal" cost $60 million(plus $35 to market) and only made $18.7 million.

Up yours Hanks and Spielburg with your fuck safe Hanks playing Andy Kaufman stuck at the airport with Micheal Douglas' wife. And why did that cost $60 million? Hanks makes $20 and they rent out an airport for a while.

I'm glad that dumb looking dogdeball movie made lots more.

And why did that cost $60 million?

They basically had to build the entire airport from scratch.

It's actually a decent "little" film.

I saw it the other night and it was poor at best.

Other than two or three good lines it was the same repetative and cliche jokes that we've all seen and heard a million times.

it seems that Ben Stiller is progressively heading in the opposite direction of success.

Jason Bateman (Pepper Brooks) and Gary Cole (Cotton McKnight), sadly enough were the best characters and they didnt show up until the last 20 minutes of the movie.

Long Haul the terminal will make more money. Not to mention on video. Dodge Ball will have the usual 68% drop off next week I have a feeling Terminal will hold steady at 10 million for a lot longer than dodgeball

stuck at the airport with Micheal Douglas' wife.

I'd love that. I haven't seen the movie but she looks better than ever in the preview.

I'd love to be trapped at an airport with Zeta, but I don't want to watch "Wilson" do it with a bad fake accent, with Stanley Tucci as "the bad guy, yet again"

it stunk on ice. the only time i laughed was when they were showing 2 guys whipping each other for an ESPN 8 promo. and that wasnt even footage shot for the movie.
