every day that i go to the gym the lil shopping center that my gym is in there is also a Laundromat. I think we all know where this is going. NO matter what weather, time of the month, day of the year, hour of the day there are black people sitting on the bench outside of the laundromat.just sitting there with the most god awful wife beaters or too tight shirts on their fat bodies....not because its laundry day, but because they have no jobs and nothing better to do than to sit outside a laundromat for their whole lives.

i don't even like to drive passed them let alone walk passed them. im not racist, they just creep me out. it would be this way if it were white trash out there but at least they decide to go run a muck in the dollar store where they dont bother anyone.

has anyone noticed this???? or am i the only one who feels this way.

She said she sees them out there every time she goes in, no matter what day or what time. It's a safe bet they don't work, at least for the time being. There's a crusty old white dude always hanging out in my bookstore no matter what time or day I'm there, so unless he's magically willing himself to make money, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume he's jobless AND homeless.

White, black...you see people just "hangin' out" in the same goddamn place all the damn time, it's probably not a stretch to guess they're unemployed. Sounded like just an observation to me. I notice the same things though by me it's predominantly Spanish people (Yes I live near Huntington Station). I do see by Amy's that there are blacks by there as well. I'm sure in Amityville and other areas there are white trash and other folks who live outside the laundry, it's just a weird phenomenon folks and she noticed it. She's not talking about buring crosses in front of the laundromat and lynching them by their wife beaters....hmmm sounds kind've cool actually. I'm sure there's places near Christopher Street in the city that have fags haning outside all day, I don't have a problem with it, it's just that people always seem to gravitate to these places and hang out all day.

There's a group of about 8 kids (10 years ago, they'd be the image ofl "slacker-dom") that ALWAYS sit outside of the coffee shop near my apartment, at least 5 days a week, seemingly for at least 8 hours a day. It's obvious they don't work or go to school...they just take up all the chairs, or even all of the sidewalk space, most of the time not even buying anything from inside the shop. No, they're not actually doing anything TO me...but they're still annoying as fuck.

In Mineola, theres a Dunkin Donuts that I frequent and these kids, mostly either Portuguese or Spanish are continually tearing into the parking lot and suddenly congregating around the back and sides of it. It happenes every single time I go there and its annoying as hell and dangerous because they certainly are not being cautious to the actual patrons. In the beginning the manager would lean out the window and scream at them to leave and theyd yell back and curse him out and stuff. Ive made complaints to the manager when I go about them and he seems just as frustrated and powerless to stop it. Its the only donut shop that doesnt seem to attract any cops and I wish it did. The only thing I can assume is either the cops arent getting "freebies" or they hate the owner.

I say lighten the fuck up and accept the fact that some folks like to inject some lighthearted humor in their posts. I for one am much more offended by people who have no ability whatsoever to enjoy making fun of other people from other cultures and whatnot. Which isn't to say that people should be racist or mean to one another, but rather to celebrate the fact that we're all people and as civilized individuals we should be adult enough to laugh at one another and even at ourselves.

To suggest that we cannot as people enjoy racial and ethnic jokes while at the same time not be racist in the least is a very sad state. I've heard plenty of jokes about my culture and religious beliefs that I'm sure completely offend and hurt other people yet they don't bother me in the least. If anything I laugh at the very same things.

If we are supposed to live in this hermedically sealed politically correct world without the ability to enjoy lighthearted humor towards one another then we will very very quickly run out of things to laugh about in our world.

Though to be fair, too many people take that sentiment the wrong way and view this as meaning they should have open season to say that kind of stuff anytime they want, in front of whoever they want.

Having free speech also requires the common sense and responsiblity to use it WISELY and not abuse that freedom by being a jerk-off. That freedom means that you also have the right to choose to NOT say something, and that you have to respect the freedom of the people around who may very well choose to NOT want to have those kind of jokes/slang/slurs/insults used in a conversation with them.

People need to just use their heads. It's that easy. Just because you want to say something, doesn't mean you always should whenever you just feel like it. That's not "restricting freedom"...that's just being responsible and at least semi-intelligent.

That said, NONE of what I just typed has anything to do with anything Amy posted in this thread.

I wish people could just lighten up around here. All I was doing was making an observation at things that happen around me and I wanted to see if it's like that where anyone else is in an attempt to maybe get a nice little convo going. Of course some people had to ruin it and make it into a racial debate, just like they make every single thing that anyone says that they dont agree with into some kind of "I'm right and you're wrong and here is why." type of thing. Maybe in the laundromats by you people don't hang outside. Maybe everyone just stays in their houses. Then a simple, "no" would have been just fine. But because they now feel they have a power, and are all knowing and effectual, they develop a god complex.
To me, they best way to help them overcome this god complex is to show them that their words have no effect on you. React only to those who have added anything meaningful and ignore the others. Remember; their goal is self empowerment, and if you ignore them, they lose their power. But of course, their will be others that react as you see above and that will also encourage the god complex, but to a lesser degree. Thats why its a good idea to spread this idea around.

Where is it a blanket statement? She clearly stated what she sees by where she lives. She also talked about other folks such as white trash and what they do. By her the landromat it just so happens to have black people habitating outside the establishment. As I said there are spanish people by where I am. It was an observation and there's nothing at all racial about what she said.

My point to you was that you made it seem like she made a blanket racial statement when in fact she was mixing observation and lighthearted humor into the mix. At any time of day, there are tons and tons of black people..... crossing the street, standing around, sitting around.... all looking very ghetto and not one in a hurry to go somewhere. 'Cept some are waiting for the bus.

Anyway, yes, I said black people. I say this because that's what they ALL are. I've never seen any other race there, and I've made the drive plenty of times over the past few months. And ghetto, I certainly said they're ghetto. Go there. They are.

This stimulates them because they see that their words have effected someone that they directed them towards and it "empowers" them and they are then encouraged to keep doing it, so that they can see they extent of their power. But because they now feel they have a power, and are all knowing and effectual, they develop a god complex.

I used to pick up some friends at Seton Hall which is on South Orange Ave and we would be going to hang out at NJIT, which is right down the road. I woudl NEVER travel down S. Orange Ave. at night. There is just way to much shit that goes on there. ANd you are 100% right, no matter what time of day, the street is packed with black people. I also have never seen a white person there. I always do see crack addicts and drug deals. I also once saw one guy hit another guy with a bat. That was the last time i made that drive. Now I go out out of the way to get from one school to another.
