What a prick! At least the kid got a bunch of cool shwag out of the ordeal. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=545&e=5&u=/ap/foul_ball_boy)
They showed the video on ESPN like a million times, and the story doesn't do this man's assholeness justice. The players were awesome for doing what they did. All's well that ends well, I guess.
(I didn't think this belonged in "Games and Sports" because its more of a story about an asshole being a prick to a 4 year old and the 4 year old making out like a bandit. Besides, if I put it in there, only the same six people would read it.)

Gee, another member of the church screwing a little boy. Somebody should have beat him down right there. I hate kids as much as anyone, but you don't throw a 4 year old to the side for a stupid baseball. F him, F his family, and F anyone supports that guy.
Kudos to the Cards for hooking the kid up.

Here is my take, what the fuck is any one above the age of 7 going to do with a foul ball anyway? who fucking cares if you caught it. What are you going to do, proudly display it on your mantle. I think those idiots that go crazy for those foul balls or homeruns are so gay. go to Modell's and buy a baseball, put a scuff on it, and pretend you caught a fould ball. In reality, people will care the same amount, which is NOT AT ALL.
I caught a puck at a Hockey game once when I was in highschool. i was so excited. then i thought what the hell am I going to do with this puck. So I gave it to a little kid 2 rows behind me. He was so damn excited. Why anyone would go out of there way, and possibly harm themselves by jumpnig over a seat, just to catch an 8 dollar baseball.

To me, it's not about if the kid gets the ball or not. That doesn't matter. What annoys me is that this grown man knocked the F'ing boy over TWICE to scramble for the piece of crap, and after he was informed that he could have hurt somebody, he replied, "Oh well." If someone is willing to break the legs of a child to get a damn ball, he's worth as much as the ball itself. If I was that mother, I'd punch him in the face and make him eat his prize. :eg:

Its a shame that the kid wasnt at the game with his father. Any father would kick the shit out of the guy for hitting his kid.
I wouldn't stop punching him in the throat until security dragged me off of him.

The funny part of the whole ordeal was that the anouncers sent an usher down just to repeatedly call him a jerk on the air. They kept telling him they would get him whatever he wanted as long as he gave the stupid ball to the kid, and I guess at that point he figured he would just look like an even bigger jackass trying to trade in his prizes as if he was bartering with a Chucky Cheeze emlpoyee for a different toy.

About 10 years ago, I was at a Mets game, and during batting practice, I got a ball from Tom Glavine, who was with the Braves at the time. Then during the game I was sitting behind third base, and a teenage girl got hit in the face with a line drive. It was pretty horrific. While the paramedics were attending to her, I made a point of putting the ball in my pocket. I didn't want to appear to be the guy who grabbed the ball that almost killed this girl.
Then a cop accused me of keeping the foul ball. I could have given the ball away, but it just didn't make sense - it was an item that had nothing to do with the incident. It would be the same as giving her a random gift - wow, sorry you got hurt, here, take this $20.00 bill.
What do you think about this?

Now the guy is giving up the foul ball (http://www.optonline.net/News/Article/Feeds?CID=type%3Dxml%26channel%3D32%26article%3D11 557782) I can't believe this is still in the news. Get over it already. He already got tickets, signed balls and bats. But he has to have the god damn foul ball. Brat.

Great, he's giving the ball back, he's still a scumbag. Again, who gives an F about the ball, it's the fact he knocked over a little kid to get the ball is the part that makes everyone sick. Why would any adult feel the need to go after a foul ball like that? What are you, 10 years old? No adult should ever go after a foul ball. If the ball comes to you, and you catch it, fine. If the ballboy, or a player throws the ball to you in the stands, as long as they're not throwing it to a kid, and you intercept it, then fine. Take the ball to your home and start a horrible collection of your failed life. I just can't F'n stand these A-holes who feel the need to re-live thier childhood and collect baseballs, and trading cards, and action figures. They are all wannabe major leaugers, who feel like if they can get a just a little piece of Major Leauge Baseball that they have made it. They can take that ball home and pretend that the ball it a ball thet they themselves hit, and they are the new homerun champ. Losers, Grow the Fuck up!!!! Now, when your talking about a homerun ball, that set some sort of record, go ahead beat each other to death, I don't care. Those are worth money, and can set someone up for life. Anything else, just give up, you're an adult, have another beer, watch the game and have fun.
The 4-yeards Dad is a bigger douche than the guy who went after the ball. If a grown man shoves my child, and sticks his head between my wife legs, I snap his F'N neck for him. Protect you own child. BTW, I don't think the child should have been "awarded the ball" just because he was closest, but he should'nt have been thrown around like a bag of luggage in a gorilla cage. I think they are going overboard with giving the kid too much. Reggie Sanders (my new hero, for more reasons than one) gave the kid a bat. That's cool, give him a bat, and a ball and that's it. Don't give them tickets to more games, and fly them around the country, and bring them in the locker room, and all that crap. The mom's a gready bitch as well.

I agree with most of what Twiz is saying... BUT it is in baseballs best interest to blow this WAAAAY out of proportion and it is exactly what they are doing. Between overblown salaries, BALCO scandal, and still lingering effects from the strike 10 years ago, the game is in deep shit. They need young fans and families to rekindle interest in the game. Loading the little fucker up with tickets, bats, and balls was a pretty smart move. Shit, they should give him the fucking Expos while they're at it!

Yes this may be blown all out of proportion but the facts were that the guy seemed more to fall over the kid because he tripped then step on him. That is not what made him an asshole...what DID make him an asshole was he was so proud of his grabbing of the ball he never bothered to check to see if the kid was ok or apologize.
If that had been me I would have given the kid the ball, no harm/no foul.
And he made things worse for himself when the mother (you could see this on camera) started chastising the guy for what he did and he was wav ing her off like "Ahhh shut up bitch, fair catch and all that".
THEN when the announcer came down to ask the guy what was he thinking he said "All I did was catch a foul ball...that's all" He did not say he was sorry he did not say he felt bad that the kid was spooked.
First reaction is usually the correct one, and he is giving the ball back NOW because he knows he looks like a total tool on NATIONAL television.
Too little too late pal.
And yes...had that been my kid I would have used the bat my kid got to beat the shit out of this guy.
He deserved to get spit on as he headed out of the stadium. Hope he is smart enough not to ever sit in those seats again.
And the players who gave the kid the bats and balls...shows that they appreciate the fans more then I have seen lately. Good for them. This action might have made this kid go from having a scary experience to the time of his life.

Fuck this little kid. Everyone knows when ball flies in to the stands it's first come first serve. That little kid was 4. He didn't seem very concerned about the ball in the first place. So fuck him! Everyone is giving him all this shit for what? All he did was get bumped alittle bit.
