I can not wait for this album! I'm leaving work early to get it. I heard an Open Letter to NY last night during an interview on KRock. It almost made me cry....I'm so glad they're back.

They're doing a show for MTV2 the second day I'm in vegas and there's no way for me to get tickets and it pisses me off.

If you're a fan, you'll love the album.

The only thing I'm let down about is there's no reason this thing couldn't have come out 3-4 years ago.

We should be waiting for the Boys' 8th album, not their 6th.

That song REALLY touched me. Living down here in FL and hearing some of those lyrics was like wow look what I left behind. However to be honest, if that was ANY other song it wouldnt have been that good, the beat was kinda funky and it seemed if the timing was off BUT its an awsome song just how they mentuon EVERYTHING about NY you could think of that makes NY NY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I went out and bought the album today, I can honeslty say Im not impressed. Its a tottally different sound than what they used to be and yet I thought this one was supposed to sound like the older days. I listened to all the songs and out of 15 there were like 3 theat were OK, and only 2 that were GOOD. My advice is to DL a few songs and Check it out for your self

Lyrically, this is the funniest and slickest album they've done so far. And it took me a listen or two to get used to the stripped-down production...but outside of the NYC song, there's not a song on there that isn't a club-banger.

I was reading in Sync, a new combination of the Maxim type and PC/Gadget mags, an interview with Mike D and AdRock. They said they did most of the production themselves on Macs. Oh yeah, and MCA's epileptic.

Yeah, it's all self produced, with mixing and scratching still courtesy of the unstoppable Mixmaster Mike.

The only thing I miss are the "live band" touches, especially the funk that Money Mark and his keyboards brought to the albums.

Oh well. Now I'm just praying we see the next one in less than 4-6 years.

Which older days sound? The Cookiepuss era? License to Ill? Paul's Boutique? Coz those are three, especially the last two, very very very different sounding blocks of music.

I got it Tuesday as well, I'm a HUGE Beasties fan and I'm loving it. I think its well written, its funky and its all things Beastie that I've come to know and love. Seriously rockin'.

I'm just amped and hoping they'll tour for it. I saw the Boys with Bizmarkee and A Tribe Called Quest in 1999 for "Beastie Boys in the Round" I was front row against the gate at Continental and it was probably the BEST show I've ever seen.

Dude, it's a reasonable hope! It took four years to get their last album, and SIX to get this one! With these guys, it's never too early to start expecting the new one...

Mike, they're not trying to sound like a specific old version of themselves...just an "old skool" style of hip-hop. Straight outta 1984 with this.

And I'm seeing them tonight at the 800 person-capacity 9:30 Club in downtown DC with my brother. I plan to have a heart attack and die from the awesomeness. Good day.

Quite possibly the greatest show I've seen in the last 5 years, even if they were three hours late because their flight in NYC got cancelled and they had to take the train.

Goddamn, that DJ made my day.

What was the setlist of the show? Was it all 5 Boros stuff or did they do old shit too?

I got the album today, unfortunately I was driving my small truck with the shittier system so the bass was really distorted, and the high end was hissy. Maybe tomorrow I'll take the big truck so I can get the full effect. What I heard so far sounded good though. I may have to rethink my 'Beastie Boys are not good rappers' thread from a couple months ago. The rhymes are a lot more solid on this album so far, moreso than the past anyway, IMO. Perhaps it's intentional. Like you said, Mojo, they scaled back the production and seem to be going towards a more 'old skool' flow. It seems like they have more focus lyrically without the added backing.

The show itself was only just over an hour...this show had started out as a radio-giveaway only, and they only put tickets on sale just this past Tuesday, and I managed to snag 2...only $15 each!

They only did three songs off the new album..."An Open Letter to NYC," one of the two political songs (The better one, at least lyrically) and then of course "Ch-Ch-Check It Out." The rest was a pretty interesting mix of songs...but it was great, since everyone in the crowd knew the lyrics and was screaming right along and dancing their asses off.

MMM kept switching up the beats and the samples and making the old classics sound like NEW classics...the man by himself should be proof in contrast to all the naysayers out there that say the turntable is not a musical instrument. Well, I guess they're kinda right...it HIS hands, it's not just an instrument...it's like 486 instruments.

Best of all, they actually did two old LTI songs I had never heard live and didn't think they did anymore..."The New Style" and "Brass Monkey!" Only thing off of PB was "Shake Yo Rump" and just "So Whatcha Want? offa CYH. Everything else was all IC and HN.

All in all, the show was only just over an hour long, and I had to wait three extra hours to see them...but you won't find a single person there that didn't think it was fan-fucking-tastic.

The Boys even bought everyone pizza while we were waiting. Awwwwww. There were people freestyling and breakdancing all over the place while we waited, and everyone was real cool with each other, so the delay ended up not being a huge hassle.

Best of all, even though this show was "sponsored" by the whack faux-alternative station in town (99.1 WHFS), the giant station banner covering the entire back of the stage was torn down and tossed away, and the crowd was dissing and booing the Sports Junkies when they got on the stage to announce everything. I hadn't heard them much since they left WJFK, but they seem to have the whole "morning zoo"-schtick down at this point...and that's unfortunate. Calling some other rival DJ a "faggot" probably didn't endear them too much, either.

Oh, and TONS of free stickers and posters being given out after the show. I still got an extra bumper sticker, if anyone wants it.

Brass Monkey!

Perhaps the most danceable song in history. I defy anyone to listen to it and not dance. You can't do it. I know, no matter where I am or what I'm doing, if I hear that shizz I immediately HAVE to get my fat, white-boy groove on. Yeah, it's scary and looks slightly like a seizure, but I don't give a fuck. I'm feelin' it.

Then imagine how apeshit the club went when they dropped the song all the way live.

Mixmaster Mike was looking like he just busted in his pants when the first bits of that sax sample came on.

I still in all my years of being a fan, have never seen them live. Of all the shitty shows I have been to in my life and I somehow made one of those but missed the Beasties. How much of a loser am I? I had an opportunity to see the Together Forever show back in 87 (?) but for some reason it fell through.
