Story here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5160042/)

Played with Lou Reed, Tom Waits. I remembered his name from his work with Matthew Sweet.

Apparently he OD'd on H over Memorial Day. I guess they just found him recently.

Guitarist Robert Quine, one of punk rock's most daring soloists, was found dead Saturday in his New York apartment. He was 61.

I normally wouldn't associate a 61 year old man with Punk Rock.

R.I.P.

What's with the old guys still on the H? First Entwistle and now this guy?

Rest in Peace, Robert.

Lou Reed is 62.

I don't associate Lou Reed with Punk Rock. I associate him more with avante-garde types in the 70's such as Bowie and Eno.

Joey Ramone would have been 53 this year.
Dee Dee would have been 52.

But the Velvet Underground were putting out some of their best albums in the mid-to-late 60's.

He was considered "punk" back in the day. I saw him play with many bands, including Richard Hell.
RIP.

And Reeshy is considered "old" compared to Gvac and myself. We can control our bowels, and we don't mix Ensure with scotch.

As the article states, he basically killed himself with an overdose of heroin because of the loss of his wife. To hear more about him (and can tolerate listening to rock critics rattle on) head on over to http://www.wxrt.com/program/detail/sound_opinions.html and click on segment 1 (about 5 minutes in)

Bob Quine was my idol, right up there with Bennington. He probably influenced me more as a musician and music fan than anyone else.

Probably the most mainstream thing he'd be known for would be his incendiary (to quote William Miller) guitar licks on Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend." I still remember fondly the stunning sight of Quine coaxing those crazy, spikey sounds out of a '65 Strat on the now defunct Fox late night "Dennis Miller Show" circa 1991.
