Don't get a Compaq. They blow ass.
My work PC is a Dell and I like it.

they have deal every single day on different dells.
I think a Dell is the way to go for you. Stay away from the 2400 series and look for the model number starting with a 4(like 4800). I forget the exact numbering. Make sure you get at least 256MB of ram. Check that site everyday and with-in a week you will find that model computer with free shipping, free hard drive upgrade, and maybe even a ram upgrade. It is a great deal and should suit your perfect.

get atleast 512mb of RAM, 40gb hard drive and 2gb CPU. You won't regret it. You could spend $500 on somthing worse than this and you'll be replacing it in two years.
If you can, stay away from Windows and Intel if you can. Go either Mac or Linx and AMD

Dell... Is the way to go. JPMNick is correct. Stay away from the 2400 series.
