I'm getting to see some of my most favorite bands play this month. Awesome.

The Living End--They're from Australia and don't get over to tour much. When they do, they tend to open for stupid pop-punk bands like Green Day, Blink 182, et.... But they're playing their own show in Baltimore next week, 'bout freakin' time.

Sixer--I thought these guys had broken up. They hadn't played a show in a long, long, long (8 'freaking months) time. Their website has ceased to exist, etc... But they're playing their hometown--Richmond on a thursday at the end of the month, so i'll probably head down there and catch their show.

I'm so happy.

The Living End rocks live! Not too many good shows happening in NYC lately. Jesse Malin is about it. Anyone know of any other good shows here?

I saw two of my favorite bands this year. Alkaline Trio and Reggie and the Full Effect played at Roseland and I saw them. Kick ass show.

Now all I have to see is Weezer, Brand New, and Jimmy Eat World.

I would have made a shameless plug for my band, but we're not really fit for human ears.

I will say we have played with some incredible bands:

The Screws: DC punk rock--how it should be. They have a EP and cover a few songs including Skulls by the Misfits and 'Movin' on Up' at about 3X the original speed.

Losers Sometimes Win: Keith from GFY's new band. NY Hardcore, kicks major ass. They have a demo, a full-length coming out. Do an amazing cover of CCR's fortunate son.

Murder's Row: Upstate NY Oi!/rock 'n' roll. All about the drinking. Great lyrics, great songs.

The Slumlords: Baltimore Oi! Just amazing. Signed to Perfect Victim records recently. funny songs, serious songs. Basically a Baltimore HC all-star band.

So The Living End show was last. Those guys are just amazing.

I was excited to see them because they were playing their own show, all previous times i've seen them have been at festivals or opening for people. They did play a lot of good songs, but nothing from their first 2 EPs, which was a bit dissapointing.

Chris is easily one of the best guitarists i've ever seen. He plays a gorgous Gretch While Falcon, and just solos all over the place. But it fits. He was trading four with the drummer at one point. Those guys are just so tight as a group. Amazing.

The Sixer show was last night (or more appropriately, this morning). They played just about every song they have (2 full lengths and an EP) and it was hot, there were only like 20 people there, but it was amazing--of course.

The reason they were playing was friends of their's Born to Lose are trying to tour the north east, so this was their Richmond show. I was talking to the guys, and they were supposed to play Baltimore with the High School Hellcats, but the show fell through. So they're going to be in DC for like 3 days with no show. I'm going to try to help them out, but I don't really have any good connections currently at any music venues in town.

Anybody have any good ideas? They mentioned playing a couple songs at a open mic night and I found a club with one on Monday, so that's at least something.

I think Calla is playing an acoustic show sometime soon at the Bowery Ballroom. The Jesse Malin Show is tonight. Im very excited. Its the first time Im seeing him thats not a solo acoustic show. Hes got a great band. I never got to see him when he was with D Generation so this should be really good.

Sorry, but Irving plaza is an overrated fuckfest. The rudest staff I've ever seen and their drinks are over priced and watered down.

Irving Plaza was awesome about 10 years ago up until only a couple of years ago.

You can't have nearly as much fun there as you use to.

I agree with Dark Hippie about the staff. Assholes.

Edit:

I'm going to my frist Irving Plaza show Sunday.

Well then be sure to visit the 119 Bar right around the corner on 15th St. It's a great place to get your pre show drink on. Cheaper than venue too.

In the last month, I saw three great shows at DC's 9:30 Club...

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Radio 4 and The Libertines, and then the Secret Machines and Interpol earlier this week.

Thumbs up!

I can't wait for the Pixies show on December 8th in DC. But Constitution Hall has some of the worst acoustics I've ever heard.

the bowery ballroom is great too, and has a great bar ...

the worst place to see a show is roseland, pisspoor layout and shitty sound -- plus that side stage of VPs is quite irksomely ...

Irving wasn't bad really, we were standing by the stage entrance doors and could pretty much see everything stagewise but the feedback was really bad for awhile.

We tried getting spots on the balcony but more than half of it was blocked off for "VIP"'s, that kinda pissed me off so instead of watching Monster Magnet we just made fun of two blonde idiots banging their heads from said section.

Good Times.

I know this board's general feeling on newer ska bands, but tomorrow I'm going to see Reel Big Fish (again), one of my all time favorite bands. I'm taking a test tonight, and it's gonna feel really good to be finished with that and going to a show. Plus my girlfriend's driving so I can knock back a couple $5.00 beers. Soon enough . . .damn grad school.

EDIT: Oh, and last time I was at Roseland (Less Than Jake, I think . .or maybe RBF) Some drunk clown was standing on the ledge of the balcony. He was acting all stupid and pretended to lose his balance . . which lead him to really losing his balance. He his the floor with a gross "thunk" and got, needless to say, got carried out.

Well, let me start out by saying my favorite band is S.T.P.. O.K., now for the Fez factor. For Christmas I got my wife tickets to see her favorite band again, The Eagles. I know, I know, flame away..........but........ I brought her to Boston in the summer of 2003 and they sounded great. I always liked there sound, though I was not a big fan. They have some sort of custom made P.A. system from JVC which sounds better then any sound system I have ever heard. The tickets in Boston where on the floor in the 12 row. In March it's up to Montreal to the Bell Centre (nee Molson), and we are first section on the side in row D. They are comming to New York and Jersey in early April. If you like any of there music, go see them. I became a fan upon seeing this show. For a bunch of old farts, they sound great.

I shucked it, and I shucked it, and I shucked it, i'm quite the mother shucker
