View Full Version : Air America this morning.. hardcore Reagan hate.

Pulled this from someone else..

"So I flipped on Air America this morning to see what they had to say about it. The title of the broadcast was, "The diefication of Ronald Reagan... why we're glad he's gone." They had special guest Jesse Jackson explaining how he was also a racist. And caller after caller was ranting about how horrible he was. "

Thoughts on a "professional" radio station doing something like this?

Air America is running for office?

And I flipped between 5 different morning shows doing bits/game shows around Reagan being dead, so it's hardly limited to Air America. Hell, even O'Reilly was asking aloud of his audience how much time do they REALLY expect him to spend mourning the death of a 93-year-old man this many days after the fact.

quite unfortunate ...

the man deserves a grace period for reflection and respect to the family ...

whats the gain -- they're preaching to a choir of a like-minded audience that already have a fairly set view of reagan ...

i was at the sonic youth show last night, and someone yelled for the band's opinion, and thurston moore yelled, "long live reagan," lee renaldo quipped in with "hinckley had a vision" (a reference to an old song by the drummer, steve shelly's, old band the crucifucks) ... lee's remark was uncomfortable, and thurston took the high road to kind of, sort of apologize ....

being disrespectful of reagan's death will only serve the far right's attack on the network ....

there's such a lack of tact in our society, just childish ... there's a time and place for everything

like I said somewhere else, hate will cost them the election.

People said the same thing about the impeachment of Clinton and the campaigns to label him a murderer and a rapist and anything else that might stick. But unfortunately 'hate' pays off in today's political environment. For republicans at least.

There isn't much in this thread to know what was really being said on Air America, but I think Reagan can survive a little mud slinging. After all, Air America was created to counter the Limbaughs and Ann Coulters, so until it starts throwing 'rape' and 'murder' around it's still just a dull shadow of its mentors on the right.

Reagan's revenge will be when the country Air America was named after is changed to Reaganlandia next week.

I'd still like to actually see transcripts of what was really said.

I've heard a lot of attacks on Reagan's presidency and his politics...but very few on the man himself. There IS a difference.

i think clinton hating hurt the republicans in the 90's for a bit. Newt was forced out of office, but the people, and killed the "contract with america" agenda.

Um... ratings? People listen to Limbaugh and the like because they either agree with him wholeheartedly or disagree violently. The same goes for the opposite side. Bringing up controversial topics will get more people to listen.. at least that's the hope.

think Reagan can survive a little mud slinging.

Ha ha! He's dead, you silly goose. He can't survive anything.

What's that? You mean his legacy? Oh.... never mind.

They had special guest Jesse Jackson explaining how he was also a racist.

Of course he was: he was white. ALL white people are racist.

So a guy on a message board heard from someplace that Air America said some things about Reagan?

Yeah, I have some thoughts on that, but my ass is the only proper medium for them.

My mother was a struggling single parent in those days, who worked 60+ hours a week, and Uncle Ronnie made it so she could not get govt. help. And she really could have used it, and certainly would not have abused it.

Answer:

Sadly, the answer actually appeared first in this thread.

NEWSFLASH! THIS JUST IN!! People all over the world just got seven points in their Death Pools! Liberals slap high-fives! Conservatives grimace!

I said it before, but it bears mentioning here...

The Left holds shock value in high regard. They love using it as a weapon against their opponents.

That being said, the Left doesn't pick and choose their spots when it comes to using shock value.

See, I'm a firm believer that Farenheit 9/11 would have had a lot more impact against the Bush campaign if Michael Moore KEPT HIS FUCKING MOUTH SHUT.

But we knew he was anti-Bush for a while. He used the biggest stage available (the Oscars) for an anti-Bush rant.

Look, the volume is always turned up to 11 and the message is eventually lost.

Okay.....for the sake of argument, let's say that the first poster was right, and the folks on Air America were having an all-day hate-on about Ronald Reagan.

Your reponse would be.....what? It's okay because conservatives will probably do the same thing when Clinton dies?

IF - I'll throw out that word as a caveat - they were just expressing thanks that the man's dead, than it's incredibly tasteless and is rather sad and pathetic. Defending it as anything other than that would be as ridiculous an any argument as can be made by any Rush Limbaugh apologist. I'm comforted, though, in remembering that the "talent" on Air America represents only a small portion of the Democrat ideology.

I didn't listen to "The Morning Sedition", frankly because i just don't listen to them.

I listened to The O Franken factor and there were no disrespectful calls about Reagan.

There were alot of "Reagan was/is over rated" phone calls. But nothing like "Im glad he's dead".

But I can't speak for the Morning Sedition show.

Limbaughs and Ann Coulters

How about station 77 on am with the guy Steve Molsberg(i think) and i heard someone else today who was total Republican.

There is no 'give and take', not one shred of any acknowledgement of anything good that a Democrat may have done. Steve Molsberg hates the Clintons with such a passion, i don't know if it's for the show or if it's his true feelings.

I second Shecky's thoughts. I really only listen to Franken, Rhodes and Kaplan... maybe a little bit of "the Majority Report" So, while they brought up some of the facts about Reagan's presidency, which the Right simply hate to be reminded of; but there was never any "I'm glad he's dead" or "it's about time" or anything like that.

What I did hear was lots of praise for Nancy Reagan's call for Stem sell research, which could have cured his Alzhiemer's
