View Full Version : Calling Old Friends

Tonight I decided to call an old friend. He lives in Northampton, Mass. We always had this wierd relationship-- I secretly crushed on him, he openly crushed on me. I would have gone for it, but he was stand off-ish and, well, perhaps gay in an androgynous way. Kinda broke my heart. He was the perfect cross between David Duchovny and Nicolas Cage.

Hope he calls me back. Haven't talked to him in ages. I hope he's come to terms with his homosexuality. He always went for chicks who were unavailable.

Trust me, he was gay and repressed.

i've been considering calling an old friend. i haven't seen her in almost 2 years and have lately been wanting to talk to her again. She was an Ex-girlfriend of mine and we had a lot together, and we did talk after we stopped seeing each other, and even hung out together a few times.
i just haven't decided whether or not it was a good idea to call her after such a long hiatus.

Monsterone is the king.
Is it advisable to spread out all the conveniences of culture before people to whom a few steps up a stair to a library is a sufficient deterrent from reading?

I call an old friend 'from time to time' who i last saw in 1987. His name is Zbigniew and he transferred out to Indiana when our plant closed. He still has a strong polish accent and i still tell him 'he's giving me a headache' when talking with him. One time he said 'on the stepsway' instead of stairway and i will never let him live it down.

I remember he bought his first car and it was a stick and he didn't know how to drive a stick 'but he learned' OUT ON THE STREET! I could just imagine how many people he pissed off but the funny thing is he really didn't give a shit...

calling old friends almost never seems to go well. it always seems like such a good idea at the beginning, and you're so happy to talk to the person. and then, like five minutes into the conversation, you start realizing why so much time has passed since the last time you talked - because you've changed and have different lives now.

however, on a happier note, i do have one old friend who i've known since i was about nine. sometimes we won't talk for a year or two, but then we'll meet up again and things will be almost like they always were. i guess when you have enough history, there's something to talk about.

I have 2 friends that I havent seen in a few years that I always think about calling but never do. One of them, who I have known since i was about 8 went off to college and that was the last I heard of him. I guess even if I wanted to he would be pretty hard to find anyway.

My other friend was my best friend in high school. We still live in the same town and I always hope to run into him somewhere since the town is so small. I should call him. We had some really good times.

He lives in Northampton, Mass.

Me and Fallon could drive over there, throw him in a duffel bag and drive him down to Jersey for you. No questions asked.

You do things like that for friends.

You do have bail money...right?

You really need to apply yourself more.

OK, I know I'm pushing it with the third post but this is a serious response.

I've had both good and bad experiences contacting people from my past out of the blue. When I was single, and had been single for a loooonnnng time, I would occasionally call an ex-girlfriend (several actually) in the hopes of seeing if anything could reblossom. It never did. And thank goodness for that because there is a reason that they are "ex-girlfriends". I mean, to use a bad analogy, if you put the milk that you found to be spoiled back in the fridge, it is not going to be not-spoiled if you return for it a day or two later.

On the good side however, I have recently gotten reacquainted with several college friends that I haven't seen in over 15 years because I called them out of the blue once I moved to Massachusetts. Its nice to have some old friends back in my regular rotation again.

So I don't have any sort of answer other than that you did the right thing reaching out to this person, just don't take it badly if he doesn't reach back. But hopefully he will.

cross between David Duchovny and Nicolas Cage. Is he the hottest man alive?

My best friend from high school and I haven't talked in about 6 years. We never had any problems, just lost touch. She called me last year to ask me to be in her wedding. I was really surprised and confused but I did it. We started hanging out again before the wedding but now we've lost touch again. I know I should call her but I feel weird. I wish I had done it sooner.

I have a friend from college who I call like every 8 months. We then make tentative plans to talk again to meet up and we never do. One of these days I should actually make plans.

I occasionally call friends who I have not spoken to in months just to keep in touch.
Once in a while I call really old friends...the ones I have not heard from in years.
One lives (lived?) in Bethesda MD. and I called him while the whole sniper incident was going on.
He never returned my calls, but I still keep in touch with his family and he never made the news so I guess he is still alive.

But I DO hate him for being able to listen to Ron and Fez all the time.

Bowie, Md.: Berkeley, I'm so glad you're back!; I've really missed The Far Side all these years.

Berkeley Breathed: Yes, thank you, but I don't draw Far Side. I draw Calvin and Hobbes.

I still talk to one of my best friends from college, or email her. We've seen each other maybe once in the last 5 years. She lives up in the Albany area. Everytime we made plans to get together down here, she always seemed to back out at the last second. I haven't really made an attempt to go up to see her. I really need to get up and see her. I love this girl.

There's another girl from college that I kind of lost contact with. She was also one of my best friends that I met freshman year. We were constantly fighting, but we were still very close. Once she quit school and moved back home, we gradually lost touch with one another. She kept in touch with my friend I mentioned above, so that's kinda how we kept in touch. She got married a couple of years ago, and I was invited to the wedding. It was great to see her. It made me realize how much I did miss her, but she never really made an attempt to keep in touch. I ended up not going to her baby shower, even though it was only a half hour from my house. I'm an awful friend.

My old freind really was my best freind growing up. He stayed in the same town and I moved all over the place since my parents divorced. Even living a county away I nover called him, I even ran into him ONCE in over god knows how many years Ive seen him, and you couldnt miss the kid. Still looked talked and well not really acted the same, but never really acted in a way to notice. I still know his number by heart, but never really had the balls to make conversation or to call him, needless to say he never did either. He was one of those kids you hung out with who was kinda special, but wasnt special enough to be put inot classes for it. Dont get me wrong, he wasnt stupid, far from it, at least from what I remembered. Just a tad bit odd looking with his hunch back and going bald at age 12 or so, good kid great memories, hope life is treating him well!

I didn't do the calling...my es-wife did!!! About 6 months after my 2nd wife died, my first wife started calling me to see if I was alright and everything. Well, I met her for coffee one day near her job and we started talking about the Bad, old days. One thing led to another and now I have a built in booty call!!! She thinks that we may have a chance at getting back together like it was years ago but I was honest with her and told her she was just good times for me at this point. I guess she's cool with it since she still wants me around!!!! What a dope!!!!!
