Dinsmore's "debut" was as the 2003 (or was it '04?) version of Doink the Clown for those few short, glorious minutes. I don't even remember the reason for digging up the dusty bones of that gimmick, just the outrage about who was chosen to rehash it for a few weeks. Aside from that I don't believe he had ever been on TV before becoming Eugene.

Although they have managed to make it mildly amusing, I still don't think it was the right way to start the career of guy who seems to have some real talent. Hatetree, did you just say the gimmick was hiding the fact that he can't wrestle? Because if you did, you're sadly mistaken. Dinsmore is basically Davey Boy Smith + Benoit, which is friggin excellent if you enjoy workrate, and even if you don't. The kid definitely has the talent, a boatload of it, but he is playing down to his gimmick, which is something that you have to admire him for that.

There's nothing wrong with having matches for sheer comedic value. My problem with the Eugene gimmick was that they couldn't make it amusing or funny or even tolerable. I was wrong on all counts. It's all just for fun and should be looked at as just like that.
