I saw all the following bands live last week, on consecutive nights. Amazing that bands that have been around 10 + years are still touring and still drawing people to their shows.
D.O.A. -- Formed 1978
The Supersuckers -- Formed 1990
The Dickies -- Formed 1977
The Violent Femmes -- Formed 1982

Would ya look at the size of that kid's head! It's the size of a planetoid and it has it's own weather system! Looks like an orange on a toothpick! I'm not kidding, that boy's head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Aye, now that was offsides, now wasn't it? He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow.</center>

10 years yes!
35 years YES!
Meaning, frigging YES is selling out some pretty big places, and just did a date at MSG that by all reviews, was absolutely phenomenal. Yes, I know they havent been relevant since the mid-80s Latest, but they keep chugging along.
As do:
The Moody Blues [40 years together]
The 'Who' [Sorry but if they called it Daltrey/Townshend play the Who I'd go. It's stupid semantics, but... they should call this tour "Whos Left?"
Deep Purple [touring Machine Heads 30th [?] anniversary
Rush; who just sell out everywhere. If youve seen them, ya know what I mean. Even if you hate the music, go watch three musicians, each arguably amongst the best in the world at their respective instruments, esp. Peart
and a few others. You're right.
I used to hang a bit with Glen Burtnick; local musician here, had a great solo album, Heroes and Zeroes. Anyway he gets plucked to join, of all acts, this New Brunswick dude: Styx. So he joins, and this nostalgia act, even without mr falsetto Dennis DeYoung, does nothing but tour. In Pollstar, the servie that tracks tours, Styx, and they're in the top ten if not twenty, every year last like ten years.
Know who is often number one? Friggin CHER!
Anyway; Glenn quit Styx, and everyones going why quit that gig the money was Huge, and he said 'Yep its huge, and i never, ever can spend any real time with my wife and kids, and that even when they tour with me.'
He got to the point where youre waking up in a strange hotel in a starnge town and hittin the vans for another 10 hour drive; 100+ dates a year. I've never done this, but know enough who have, and they say its just hell on earth. Those bands on Ozzfest? They not even allowed to play gigs near the Ozzfest, for obvious reasons, but that means a tour where its maybe one hour of stage time, and thats your day. done. The rest you fill in with whatever, but the displacement and lack of sleep feeling just never go away. Any traveler will tell ya that one.

Rush is on their 30th anniversary tour this year, and their tickets are selling well. I'll be seeing them in NJ in August.

I saw both Yes (Union tour) and The Moody Blues (circa 1989) pre-1992.
I have never seen Rush, but I kinda want to.
Seeing the Who just wouldn't seem right to me.

Aerosmith is touring with Cheap Trick this summer.
And, as usual, Kiss (50%) is touring again.

"The Beach Boys" are touring this summer. Formed in 1961, Mike Love is the only original member left.
Skip this crapfest and see Brian Wilson when he tours solo this year.

I'll be at the Jones Beach show.
Another old and rather obscure band that's still touring is Helloween. I saw them twice this year.

I saw the YES show at MSG and it was great! They were "on" the whole night and got a 5 minute standing ovation after "And You & I" !
I missed The WHO at MSG the other night! The tix went on sale only 2 weeks before and I couldn't get out of work in time to go! DAMN! And it was a great show from what I heard. I do agree that it should be "Daltrey/Townshend Sing The WHO", mainly because Entwistle was my fave. But "The WHO" is a brand name now.
I'm goin' to see RUSH in NJ in Aug. as well!! It's their 30th Anniversary, and my 20th of goin' to see them! DAMN time flys!
I also might catch the OZZFEST just see JUDAS PRIEST. If not, I'll catch PRIEST when they tour solo later in the year.
