Still the worst thing to ever happen in wrestling. He was one of the true good guys.

And Sting said in a recent interview they were going to have him rappel out of the rafters for Mania 19, till the deal fell apart...

I'm curious as to whether the WWE will mention this in some way, or simply ignore it.

Don't worry, they'll ignore it. :confuse:
"Foreign wrestling matches are a lot like foreign films; no one really understands 'em, but they don't want strangers to think they're stupid, so they rave about them and turn their noses up at anyone who says otherwise."
They mention him all the time for various reasons. To mention him now, simply because of the anniversary of his death, would be more tasteless then they normally are.

I doubt anything will be said, most fans don't know him, and most fans, and people in the WWE have the "Out of sight, out of mind" mindset.
Hell, they barely give wrestlers tributes when they die lately. They don't realize that doing something small like that may mean nothing to them, but means a lot to friends and family of the passed away.

What the fuck are you talking about. Name me one wrestler who worked for the WWE that died that they did not mention or give a tribute too is some capacity. Besides whatever they did on raw, at the end of last year they did a tribute to every person who died who was affiliated with wwe in someway to that evanescensce song that is something like wipe away all of your tears.

Took them almost two months to mention Crash.
And who can foget the month's worth of "Confidentials" they got out of blaming WCW for Elizabeth's death.
I wouldn't expect them to mention Owen, and quite frankly I wouldn't want them to. Those of us who've watched him can remember him on our own.

recap from lordsofpain
The World Wrestling Federation will donate a portion of their programming tonight to Owen Hart. Before WCW Nitro began this evening, a 3 bell toll for Owen was done and a tribute to him was flashed on the screen. Later on, Tony Schiavonne and Bobby Heenan expressed their condolences to Owen and his family. All of the wrestlers tonight on RAW have on "Owen Hart" armbands. A few people on Nitro, including Chris Benoit wore "Owen Hart" armbands. From this program, you learned every WWF superstar was entertained by Owen and loved him, as he loved them too. This was a great program by the WWF in honor of Owen. Throughout the program, Ross and Lawler reminded us of their personal favorite Owen moments.
The program opens with Howard Finkel in the ring. All of the WWF superstars and employees are lined up the ramp. A 10 ring is done. Attention is directed to the Titantron where Vince McMahon narratives a video documentary of Owen Hart's career highlights and The Hart Family. Fading back to the ramp, Stephanie McMahon is shown shedding tears with Linda, Vince and the rest of the WWF.
Jim Ross explains to everyone that this night is dedicated to the memory of Owen Hart. Ross says tonight we will see 10 great matches and comments from WWF stars towards Owen.
Before the commercial, Mick Foley talks about Owen. Foley tells how his son, Dewey was a huge fan of Owen's. The Foley family always were proud Dewey mocked and tried to be like Owen.
Back from commercial, Bradshaw is talking about Owen. Bradshaw tells some experiences with Owen and how his children would be proud to have a man like Owen as their father.
Jeff Jarrett with Debra took on Test. Debra and Jeff came out, hiding the tears, just barley. They both looked broke down. Jeff gets on the mic and says "This one's on the record, Owen was never a nugget." A great match. Jeff locks on The Sharpshooter, Owen's finisher for the victory. What I thought was uncalled for on a night like tonight, Debra got on the apron and exposed herself. After the match, Debra and Jeff embraced.
Mark Henry does an emotional speech about Owen. Henry prepared a sad poem in tribute to Owen. Battling the memories and tears, Henry got through the poem after emotions ran wild and paid great tribute to Owen.
Back from commercial, Darren Drozdov is remembering Owen Hart. Droz says Owen was one of the few guys who could walk into the lockerroom without any problems. He told how Owen was always great to him. Once, he subbed for Jarrett in Canada for an autograph session with Owen, Droz told how Owen was great with everyone who showed up.
X-Pac and Kane take on Gangrel and Edge. Teaming by The Brood on X-Pac. X-Pac makes a small comeback and tags in Kane. Kane overpowers Edge and Gangrel. X-Pac in, only to be sent out to the floor by Edge and be jumped by Gangrel. In the ring, X-Pac and Edge tag in their partner at the same time. Kane takes on the Brood. X-Pac assists Kane. X-Pac with a BroncoBuster. Kane chokeslams Gangrel and throws X-Pac on Gangrel for the win. Kane and X-Pac retain the WWF Tag Team Titles.
Triple H and Chyna express their thoughts on Owen. Chyna is holding back the tears. She says she thinks Owen would be pleased with them now. She says Owen was always a funny and fun to be with guy. Triple H speaks, after hesitating because of the sadness. Triple H can barley speak, he begins to cry. He says in this business you see the best, the worse. You spend time with your friends and their families. He says Owen was always at his best, never a piece of trash and always there for everybody to make you laugh, make you mad, anything. HHH says Owen loved his family, talked about them all the time, he lived for them. He says he'll never forget him and always love him. Triple H is very emotional.
Back from commercial, Earl Hebner is on. He says Owen was always the special person in the WWF that made everyone make sure they had a nice, great day. Earl says Owen will always be a good man and ends with tears.

ok, im wrestling clueless, but wow really?
im so behind the times the last wrestling thing i watched was the Beyond the Mat DVD. But that reminded me that McMahon would seem to stop at nothing for publicity; family, friends, whatever. perhaps crazy, perhaps genius, maybe a little of both.
anyway heres my Q to those who actually know this stuff: As sick as it sounds, why didnt they jump all over this, or other deaths, irrespective of circumstances. is it legal? some fear of lawsuits?
and above all; youre right. Sheesh I do know that these guy practically kill themselves doing what they do, so when they Do indeed die, youd think the Industry would giver proper respects; the fans of the guy will appreciate it, the non-fans might hate it, but hey, the guy died.
Q2: Wheres Roddy? is he doing nothing but attending autograph shows? I thought he ruled, and his appearence on The man Show a while back? The place went insane.
He's the perfect mouth, I think, at least. I mean the guy can put a sentence together, hell he did great in They Live, so why not doing something, anything inwrestling. or am i wrong again.

Pretty much... he passed away in early November, and WWe didn't even mention him until the end of the year, when they did their year-end tributes. Only Stevie Richards, his good friend, acknowledged his death prior to the belated tribute.

Actually, if the person was a current employee at the time of their death (Owen, Brian Pillman), left the company on relatively good terms (Elizabeth), or was a huge part of their history (Fred Blassie) then WWe would go all out to tribute them. [Sometimes the recognition would be somewhat questionable, such as Vince pimping an interview with newly widowed and pregnant Melanie Pillman a little more than 24 hours after Brian was found dead.] However, if the person in question either left the company on very bad terms or never stepped foot in a WWe ring, it was very unlikely that their death would even be brought up (I remember there was a huge uproar when they neglected to mention Lou Thesz's death; they eventually brought it up at a later date). In Crash's case, two factors possibly played a part in the delay of a mention: 1) he was released by WWe just a few months prior, and 2) he died in a home owned by Richards, a current WWe employee. (My apologies to Robbie Z if I'm going too far by making these assumptions)

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how much of a fan you are of Piper), he said some very negative things about WWe on an HBO special last year and was quickly fired. Since then, he's been making appearances for several organizations, including TNA, and quite frankly frightening people with his belligerence and way-out-there statements. I too loved him in They Live (just got the DVD, as a matter of fact), but I personally feel he's deteriorated physically and perhaps mentally over the past decade.

Love him or hate him, Hyatte had a great bit in his column about the things Owen would say today if he came back.
IF OWEN WERE ALIVE, HE WOULD SAY.
-Okay, which one of you assholes pushed me?
-Why is Bret talking like a damn `tard?
-Bret fell off a BIKE?? What a damn idiot.
-Who did Hunter blow to get so high in management?
-Jesus, someone tell Stephanie to lay off the back bacon, eh.
-HA! Shawn's bald! HA! YA DAMN GOOFBALL!!
-The bloody fuck is Bischoff doing here?
-Hey Vince, still pissed I crippled Austin? Or do you now wish I finished the damn job?
-It's been almost ten years and I STILL haven't figured out why you hosers stuck me in the Nation of Domination.
-Rob Feinstein did WHAT?
-Where the hell is Chyna?
-Why is that damn fool Rocky making movies?
-Sable's still here?
-Benoit?? Guerrero?? Champions? Are you fucking shitting me?
-It's been five years, least you can do is smile, J.R.
-Flair is still alive?
-I'm sure my fellow countrymen have forgotten all about what Vince did to my brother. They aren't THAT pathetic.
-Who's writing this shit. Where the fuck is Russo?
-Why is Issac Yankem dressed like a damn firetruck?
-Jesus, any more facelifts and Lawler's balls will be in his throat.
-Why am I here? Shouldn't I be re-uniting with my wife and kids?

Here's the exact deal on why WWE didn't do a tribute, I don't think it's the best, but I even had to explain it to Crash's mom.
It was decided that Stevie's match with Rico would be the tribute to Mike. He came out in Crash's tights, to Crash's theme, doing the exact enterance as Mike would have.
I talked to Stevie that night, and asked why there was no video tribute to Crash. He said "I would rather have just one audience see my true heartfelt tribute, than have a bunch of video guys who could never care at all about Crash put together some video package that meant nothing to them."
But I have to say I was very happy to see some not on that year end show, as hard as it was to see.

I can understand that, Robbie, but for WWe to not even mention his passing... I don't know, that just stinks to me. But I do remember reading about Stevie's tribute and thinking it was pretty damn cool.
